Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

That strikes me as making a flying leap to conclusions. Like, just for starters, he'd have know something bad enough that they'd prefer that the headline say 'Trump administration has high-profile politician killed to prevent him from testifying' than just letting him talk. And if he knew anything that big, they probably wouldn't be taking immunity off the table.

Trump signed the guest book at Israel's Holocaust memorial museum the same way he tweets
On that note:

The brother of slain Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich wrote a letter on Tuesday to the executive producer of Sean Hannity's Fox News show pleading with him to find "decency and kindness" in his heart and stop spreading an unproven conspiracy theory about the unsolved murder.

Fox News staffers 'disgusted' at network's promotion of Seth Rich conspiracy theory

Honestly the note could've been much worse. I was imagining worse. And wow, can you see the difference b/w Trump's and President Obama's writing. ![]()
Hannity's been saying that for weeks. And I don't think he has any tv personality outside crusading rebel.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesWhile I'm not exactly offended (and for the record, Bush was even shorter with his
), I am really weirded out by the tone, especially "with all my friends." For that matter, just how many people there does he actually consider a friend? How many of them consider him a friend?

Good for New Hampshire.
Looks like Montana is next as far as special elections go. Looking at the wikipedia article
only two polling firms have been covering the election with any real detail, and they are giving wildly contradictory results. With Gravis Marketing polls giving Greg
Gianforte (R) a comfortable lead, while Google Consumer Surveys are giving the cowboy-hatted Rob Quist (D)note a comfortable lead, even in polls taken at the same time.
According to 538's pollster ratings
, Google Conumer Surveys is slightly more predictive of actual election results, but we are talking a 84% accuracy rate verse a 79% accuracy rate for Gravis Marketing. In other words, while this does give Rob Quist a slight advantage, it's only a slight advantage.
Still, this is one of those elections where the fact it's even close is a very positive sign for the Democrats.
Regarding the Flynn thing, can we please refrain from assuming/starting conspiracy theory plans about assassinating anybody? Hell, if it gets the point where he's in jail then whatever he knows has probably already been said, and if it was that dangerous they'd keep him in protective custody until then. As for things unrelated to this case, well, there's plenty of people who've shared his level of clearance and I'm pretty sure most of them haven't been assassinated.
Seriously, that's youtube level commentary.
That bill really doesn't make sense beyond appealing to the whole "small government" deregulation endemic to the GOP.
If it's not vetoed, that basically means restaurants will not only avoid paying $35 a year to register scales, there won't be anyone checking whether or not said restaurants are ripping customers off a few ounces of meat at a time. Which isn't nothing — meat isn't cheap, and all that adds up.

Disgusted, but not surprised
Pro-bono opposition research (in the form of laundering various leaked and/or stolen documents from the Clinton campaign via Wikileaks and publicizing said leaks via Russian state media) which may have been coordinated with the Trump campaign.
So fairly tame as far as the history of electoral espionage goes, but definitely enough to bring down the Trump administration if he's found to have been complicit in it.

There's also probably helping them microtarget potential swing voters through Facebook. I forget the details, but I think the Russians hacked or stole info on people who voted democrat and gave that to Bannon's company which could then send those people pro-Trump/anti-Clinton articles, or something like that. Unless I'm wrong.
Also, Trump's in trouble just for trying to cover this all up, just like what happened with Nixon.

Democrats Flipped Seats In 2 Districts That Voted For Trump

That's the best news I've heard in a while. We might actually have a chance to pull this stunt on a mass scale if we keep this momentum going (and the GOP doesn't get a counter-plan in place fast enough).
Another good thing. For once, no conflicts of interest were found with Robert Mueller, the special Counsel, which helps back up his reputation.

I also remember all those Berniecrats that won their School Board Elections in New Mexico.
It's good that they're winning in the States, which I think is a huge positive, but so far all the States they've won in have been Democrat leaning states already.
Hopefully, though, Rob Quist of Montana and Jon Ossoff of Georgia win their Special Elections and prove their is momentum for this movement.

Flynn is a dead man walking regardless of how this turns out.
He Knows Too Much is in full force here
