Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Man has gone through his entire life being Never My Fault incarnate and mostly gotten away with it. Why stop now?
Here's the cycle of news for the following year:
Trump does something stupid news calls him out Trump rants against them Fox News and twitter fans defend him Trump points out to them as facts news calls THEM out too Trump holds a press meeting to dispel rumors where stuff is said, but takes no questions Trump does something stupid
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesForeign leaders told to praise Trump on election win
Also included. Don't expect Trump to know about your nation's history or current issues and make short presentations because he has a short attention span.
At least this should be fun. Trump is going to meet Pope Francis.

Why would it be fun? The Pope is a powerless figure and no matter what he says it will be predictable, ineffective, and particularly inoffensive
Even the "best case scenario" would be ineffective. The catholic groups of the U.S are quite different from those everywhere else in the world and will easily dismiss the pope's words.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesAnd in either way the Pope will be unable to say or do anything.
He is the Pope, he is the figurehead of pretentious neutrality with the effectiveness of a watercress sandwich
Most Catholics voted Trump
As I said before, the Pope has little grasp over the Catholics in the U.S.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesWhat foreign leaders have come up with trump-handling sound uncomfortably like babysitting instructions.
I suppose I should be angry he's shirking part of his duties representing the country because the trip would be long, but I can't say I'm not relieved.

I love this article. Nothing we don't already know, but it just paints a picture of a miserable paranoid old man, that would actually be kind of sad if he wasn't our POTUS.
