Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If that's true, Trump is going to be in a world of hurt tomorrow; not because he's going to Jail (yet), but because several of his allies are going to be arrested, and that will reflect badly on Trump.
I don't know what "Docket Clearing" for Justices entails, though.

From the article:
Trump Voters Back Him Amid Scandal
Essentially they're "sick and tired" of the media or the stories are a scheme to subvert the president or the media "don't want to see America do well." Granted it is a two minute clip of people in one town (Nashville, TN),, so its probably more useful for a look at their specific reasonings than a cross-section of trump voters.
Sudan's Bashir asked to Saudi summit with Trump despite ICC charges
Mr Bashir will travel to Saudi Arabia on Friday, Sudan's Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour said.
The minister added that he hopes US sanctions against Sudan will be lifted in July, and said he believes the US wants to normalise relations.
It is not known whether Presidents Bashir and Trump will meet when the US leader arrives in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
The visit is Mr Trump's first overseas trip since taking office, and he is scheduled to address the summit on his "hopes for a peaceful vision of Islam".
In 2009 and 2010, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants against Mr Bashir for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity related to the conflict in Darfur, which has claimed at least 300,000 lives.
He denies the charges, and has successfully evaded arrest for several years.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our lives
That sort of reminds of a thing that was posted years back, about people being skeptical of Politico or something because it rated things Republicans said as false like three times as often as with Democrats. Apparently the thought that Republicans just lie way more, or in this case that more stuff keeps coming up and that's why the media keeps talking about it, never occurred to them.

These guys are FUUUUUUUCKED
New Survey coming this weekend!I guess that's one good thing about this crooked administration; he may want to kill Obamacare, but he won't touch Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security Programs, unlike the rest of his party that really wants to do away with it entirely...
At least Flynn is Flynned. And while that might help an Obstruction of Justice case against Trump, we still need to get Republicans on board with actually doing anything, or wait until 2018.
I have no doubt that Flynn is going down before 2018, though. They have no reason to spare him at all.

Democratic leaders seek to stifle impeachment talk
Furthermore, with the prospect of impeachment still far, far off in a Republican-controlled Congress, Democrats in both chambers want to stay focused building opposition to the GOP’s Obamacare repeal effort. They’re well aware that the Trump scandals dominating the news cycle threaten to shift attention from unpopular parts of the Republican agenda.

It seems the Democrats will not push impeachment right now.

@Beary, probably money, though with Flynn there might be some sort of autocratic ideological crap. But its probably mostly money.
Hopefully he only turned after he left the military....
As for impeachment, let the investigation run its course (in public) and then wait to see to the Republicans play ball or not. If they don't, they reap what they sow (between this and their promises not coming through). If they do, Trump is gone and they still look pretty awful.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. On one hand, I still think impeachment may turn out to be necessary, despite how much trouble it would bring.
On the other hand, it's true that it's unlikely with a GOP held Congress, there's no surefire smoking gun (yet), and the ACA repeal is still the far more immediate threat.
I'm not super happy about it, but I think the Hill Democrats are making the right call.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI don't think it's possible to have a totally perfect outcome. Even if Trump is impeached and even if he's forced out of office, that still leaves other issues. But it's a good start.
About all of the stuff from today and the past week I was thinking of a paraphrase of a quote from Archer - Think about Trump right now, "he's all tied up somewhere, scared and alone. Probably dehydrated."
Don't get me wrong, I want Trump impeached, out of the WH, and preferably in a prison cell.
As for Pence...he's gonna be shitty for the LGBTQ community and for people who aren't WASP in general. No doubt about that. But the thing is, as has been brought up before here, the thing he will do that will hurt them the most? It's something Trump has already done and will keep doing: appoint "conservative" (read: regressive) judges.
Disgusted, but not surprisedPence is afraid he is going to be dragged down to the bottom with Trump: https://twitter.com/joncoopertweets/status/865020071932035072

So, in latest "...the fuck is going on?!" news, we have stirrings down in Virginia that point to US Marshals getting ready to make arrests, as 4 of the 11 judges have had their dockets for tomorrow cleared
, 3 of which have been done indefinitely, according to political insider Claude Taylor.
