Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

TYT of course today is trying to discredit Hillary raising money for progressive groups because without a hint of irony...
They think she's going to channel that money to so-called "corporate democrats"
Looking at that Twitter post's comment chain (yeah I know
)...man, it is so weird seeing TYT of all things being accused of being establishment.
x4 They're probably just pissed she's not giving any of that money to Justice Democrats (nor should she given that they're morons trying to primary Manchin).
...Please tell me she's not raising money for Justice Democrats too. That would be a mistake.

Disgusted, but not surprisedSenator Thom Tillis (R-NC) has collapsed in DC during a race and was taken to a local hospital.
Bear in mind, when it comes to conservatism, it isn't really a coherent ideology. This isn't necessarily bad, as a lot of self-identified conservatives really are okay with advancement, they just want it slowly, but a ton of them don't land in that category. But people in the first category are generally pretty smart and are okay to work with.
The rest are the people who grew up in a certain area or ideology who don't like how they're being left behind so they'll do anything to prevent everyone else from moving on. This is why you get issues that one generation constantly screams about, but the next one straight up doesn't care. It's not because the next generation is better or anything, it's because they were raised to believe that it was a settled issue.
And of course, modern American conservatism was primarily defined by the Boomers, who arguably had it the best out of all the generations that still have surviving members. A lot of them want to drag the world back to where it was when they were starting out, but without the benefits and opportunities they had given to anyone else, because that would hurt their profits.
These people are nigh impossible to work with or even deal with properly because they'll feel slighted or offended if anything doesn't match their expectations.
Again, not every member of that generation was, but enough of them are that it's genuinely a problem.
Trump had asked James Comey to imprison Journalists for publishing Classified Information, according to most recent rumors.
Not sure if this is true, but considering Trump, I wouldn't be surprised if it is...
If true, that's bad. I'm still more interested to see if there's truth to him asking Comey to end the Flynn investigation, which is textbook obstruction of justice. A lot of experienced people and even some Republicans are saying that this could be the scandal that breaks the teflon orange.
Even Ryan wants Comey to speak to the House.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Okay, you know what? I'm now okay with Pence taking the White House over Trump's impeached body. (I don't believe that there's currently an actual legal reason to impeach Pence, Ryan won't do it, and the Senate won't agree to a straight-up coup like that.)
It'd suck for LGBT people (who don't need another load of crap dumped on them) but an impeachment and conviction would set a strong precedent against populist authoritarianism (not that its supporters care about precedent, but its opponents do). #Dump Trump
Yeah. I truly think we're at that point now. President Pence could be reasoned with, at least.
Pence is just as bad as Trump, and in some ways worse. Lawful Evil is not really any better than General Failure, as lawful evil implies at least a marginal bit of competence, and if he becomes President, we still can't be tempted to stop fighting for the progress we've made.

Exactly. I'm sure that each one of them has something on them. We just need to find it.

@Labrador's stupidity du jour: yeah...I'll just choose one—that suing a city for not doing its job can happen under current law. Except immigration isn't a city thing (and good luck proving proximate cause if it was—or hell, figuring out who to sue b/w legislative immunity and a "just following orders" defense that regularly works). Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our lives
