Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I have a feeling in my bones that this might be the start of the end of Trump. Problem is, I could be wrong and Trump hasn't really been hurt by anything yet. But this feels an awfully lot like something that would happen during Nixon's years. If the fact that No Republican will support Trump on Fox News is true, it might be.
My real problem is that Comey was withholding this information until just now. He should've revealed this information as soon as possible. I don't doubt it's true, but I'm pretty sure Comey is also guilty of Withholding Evidence...
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is beating Trump in the Polls.
So Dwayne should really run against Trump in the 2020 Republican Primaries.
x5 Does this mean we'll get to see Trump tell everyone "I am NOT a crook", even though he is a crook? Either that or shoot himself in the White House. 'Time to cash in my chips then!'

The thing with Pence is: yes, he won't create scandals. Yes, he'll look like a big improvement and as if the Republicans finally did something good (though really, the question of "why only now" comes up and the answer isn't pretty).
For all that though, only the hardcore Republicans and evangelicals will rally around him. He isn't "anti-establishment", he isn't an outsider, he's "more of the same". And if the Republicans actually get better at doing the things they want, he's not going to be very popular anyways.

He's already done that—evidence aside. Then we elected him.
Georgia 2018: Sally Yates rules out a run for governor next year
“I am totally ruling out the governor’s race. I am not running for governor,” she told The New Yorker, though she left the door open for an electoral bid down the road.
“I recognize that I may have a voice that I didn’t have before. And part of what I want to be able to do is to figure out how I can responsibly use that voice in a way to impact things that I think really matter. I just don’t know what form that takes,” she said in The New Yorker interview, adding: “I’ve got to give something more back.”
Yates’ decision comes as little surprise – she dropped nary a hint about a gubernatorial run over the last few months – and is a relief to two other Democrats circling the race: House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams and state Rep. Stacey Evans.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesThe comments really sell that tweet—especially the first two.
- Translation: "OK so now my back IS against the wall." Spineless treasonous bastard.
- Wow what a solid statement. I hope they request the memo politely.
- Love how he never sits on the fence (eye roll) and makes clear statements on non-financial issues (cough, cough)
- As if he could take any other position at this point. Too little too late.

Cry.

You can't be serious.

I'll believe that pen exists when I see it.
