Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Same with being president is harder than he thought... they forgot to mention how he followed that up with but I can handle it I don't mind it being hard.
As for the second—well no one is prepared for the presidency because there's only one job like it stateside. In context though that was coming off of trying to pass a massive healthcare rollback that not only was slapped together after nearly a decade of prep time, but flew in the face of all Trump's campaign promises. Further, it really confirmed suspicions about his ability to govern, given what he showed on the campaign trail. Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our lives

The wall may very well end up being built, but it really won't accomplish all that much beyond costing money. Trump cracking down on illegal immigration (and illegal border crossing has been in the net negatives since Obama's second term) has already had a major chilling effect on illegal border crossing for one, making the wall even more pointless than it was to begin with; it'll deter a handful of people from crossing illegally who really aren't that desperate to begin with, cost a lot of money and annoy the hell out of people living on the border.

How can you, in clear conscience, refer positively to a man who said that he can shoot someone in broad daylight and that it would not affect his popularity? (you know, ignoring the whole "shooting someone in broad daylight" thing)
Now, while I think Trump is not necessarily a bona-fide racist, his indifference to minorities' plights combined with actual racists and white supremacists that govern USA - either in his office, in House or Senate - does not make me think he is in any way sympathetic to them.
Human trafficking will go through the water, especially considering how coast guard's budget has been maimed in favor of The Wall, same as with airport security.

As a quasi-socialist, I wish. A hard left perspective would be great. CNN is your generic neoliberal, corporate media.
Anyone who thinks CNN is socialist doesn't actually know what socialism is. And is likely brainwashed by Fox News
When CNN starts pushing for the workers to seize the means of production and actively starts fighting Big Businesss then maybe I could see it as socialist.

That said, if you really aren't trolling (which I now doubt) can you provide any evidence of your own to back up your claims? While a lot of arguing and back and forth goes on here, we mostly post things meant to back up our claims. You've done none of that in favor of "throwing rocks at the beehive"
You can call everyone stubborn liberals all you want, but if you don't back up your own claims no one here has any obligation to assume anything but deliberate trolling.
Until that happens, I'm going to stop feeding the troll.

@Lunar: The fact that people just quit any political discussion wherein the participants don't agree with them ideologically is one of the major reasons why political discussions feel like they go nowhere, and why people on different parts of the political spectrum seemingly live in completely different universes. As infuriating as it is to constantly debate the same handful of talking points over and over again with people you have serious and seemingly irreconcilable ideological differences with, people's minds won't change if you aren't prepared to put in the effort.

Guys, stop responding to this nonsense. He's a self-admitted troll. Anyone who says that they said what they said just to get a reaction, then tries to call the entirely reasoned disagreement he's been getting from the forum "getting their pitchforks out" is by definition a troll, and a pretty special snowflake-y one at that. Let's not give him any more of our time.
Uncritically defending a worthless dolt and his trainwreck of an administration won't win you any supporters on this thread. Will you still come back here in 2020 if Trump loses? I want to point and laugh.
