Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, we can't really judge him, can we? Sometimes you just gotta cockle-doodle-do.

I think the whole issue with minorities is that they dont see as people, craked said in article that we judge people for what they are and ourself for what we intent or think and therefore we put lower standars, with people here is pretty much the same in a bigger scale in their narrative: everyone have the same mision to get better, is just that white people tend to be softer with themselves and people like them(even when they are nothing like them in the case of trump) and subject other to harsher estandars because they have to overcome our bias.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"
Basically, they think that whenever other people do things they consider bad, it's because they are inherently bad people. OTOH, when they do those same things, it's because of bad circumstances.
This in part is why too many people in the USA have trouble acknowledging white rightwing nationalist terrorism is, well, terrorism.

Disgusted, but not surprised
to be fair that is a typical human condition, you see that with some asian immigrant who belive the whole "minority model" thing or when some mulism complain about religion in US but said nothing about their on comunity.
but yeah, in fact I will said that is the biggest reason people hate so much obama: if he take vacation them is just proving the idea that black are lazy while donald is someone who "just happen" to take vacation, the focus is always in the idea the white men chose something.
or let me put it even better: is like race version of men do women are, minorities just ARE terrorist, criminals, etc while white men "chose" to be one for one reason to another.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"John Oliver on Net Neutrality 2: FCC Bugaloo
Apparently the FCC page is crashed again, this time due to the friendly people from Last Week Tonight creating the address http://www.gofccyourself.com/
to bring you quick and easy to the place on the FCC where to complain about attacking Net Neutrality.
And then daring everyone who tweeted 'Choke me Daddy' at the Pope to use it.

"You can reply to this Message!"
Which pope was it? Because it was the previous Pope who could force-choke people, not the current one.
Edit: It might be because I'm not in the States, but the above URL doesn't redirect me anywhere.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."That's cause they wrote it wrong. It's gofccyourself, not gofccyouself. Even with the proper address, it still doesn't come up because that part of the FCC website has crashed. Even if you go through the slightly longer process, it still doesn't work.

And in interesting news, Pearland, Texas High School senior managed to beat out a two term incumbent on his district's school board.
Following town hall backlash, Labrador says health care comment ‘wasn’t very elegant’
http://www.idahostatesman.com/news/politics-government/article149149844.html
Labrador tries to clarify what he actually meant by "not having health care doesn't kill people"
So he's trying to pull the "People go to the ER anyway and that's still available" thing. Which is dumb, because insurance covers ER visits. All it's going to do is jack up costs for everyone else and put people into massive debt.
I want someone to ask these people what they think about the US having the most expensive and least effective healthcare system in the developed world. The US government (even aside from Obamacare, this has been a thing for ages) pays more per capita for healthcare than Canada, or Australia or the UK, or pretty much anyone in Europe. They really want to save money? Maybe go to a healthcare system that demonstrably costs less.
Bluntly speaking, I do not understand what Labrador's "context" is or why it would make a difference. It comes off like he realized that his assertion is nonsense and rather than admit to it is blaming others for not accepting his unpersuasive excuse.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
x 4 I can't tell you about now, but before the ACA passed, the (then) opposition commonly said, with utter sincerity, "the US has the best healthcare system in the world!" while giving examples (that may or may not have been made up) of individuals fleeing socialized medicine tm regimes to be treated here. Technically the new narrative is a step forward.
