Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

"Psst! Trump! This is your conscience speaking. If you don't mind, could you, I don't know, give all of your money to the poor, burn down Trump Tower on national television, release all of your tax returns, and resign from the Presidency while admitting to be nothing more than a shameless conman that 'grabs em by the pussy'? That would be great, thank you, buh-buy!"
Wow, France is now the only sane man on the Security Council.
France, Germany and Canada to save the world.
I commend him for being honest while simultaneously wanting to spit in his eye.
I'd note that the US has at times made small trades o of its own interest to stand for it's morals, it's never done so in big ways but if it wanted to be a pure evil pragmatic villain there are a number of good things it wouldn't have done.
The recent statement seems to indicate that even those rare good acts will no longer be seen.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranAt one point you could tell whether it was Donald or his staff tweeting by looking to see whether it came from an Android phone or an iPhone.[1]
All the tweets from the Android (which was supposed to be retired as it was insecure) were nasty and all the tweets from the iPhone were polite and could be mistaken as written by a reasonable person.

I imagine if the election results were narrower, he would be tweeting "FAKE NEWS" and "LE PEN ROBBED OF WIN — FRENCH DEMOCRACY A JOKE. SAD!"

Why do you think they're so afraid of minorities and other groups getting more power? They view it as a zero sum game. If "those people" get more power and become the majority they'll just turn around and treat white people the same way. It's kind of funny because it only makes sense if you acknowledge that minorities aren't treated equally which is something conservatives consider a myth for the most part.

It is a longstanding Moral Myopia-they treat people the way they do because they could care less about the ones they do not personally hate, and they project what they think onto their opponents-because they cannot understand that someone in their position would ever do anything different. They call people corrupt for taking bribes, because they see no reason not to take bribes and imagine someone would only choose not to do so if they were too stupid to recognize the opportunity. Same thing with screwing people over in business deals, marginalizing their political power, and every other horrible thing they do-they are incapable of imagining a world where everyone who is not like them or too stupid to be like them is not the end-all be-all of human existence, because acknowledging that possibility would make them monstrous (which they are).
They assume everyone else in the world is just as twisted and vile as they are, and everyone claiming different is just running a con-so they feel fully justified in everything they do. Same string of thought as bullies-people were amazed when they finally sat down and did the research, after decades of assuming bullies were just maladjusted people with low self-esteem lashing out. Turns out a frightening percentage of bullies have very high self esteem and do what they do because they genuinely enjoy it.
Yeah, I think some of them might realize, on some level, that minorities do have it worse, but that they either deserve it, or that maybe they don't but if they get too much more power they won't stop and the tables will be turned on them.

Hey, I never said it was good grammar. At least it wasn't "LE PEN GOT ROBBED! DEMOCRACY IS A JOKE! DON'T TRUST NEWS!"
