Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It means that at least one out of the largest nuclear powers on the planet (America, Russia, China, Britain, France) isn't handing over its keys to either an autocrat or a fascist.
So that's something.

.. Dodge and dodge. France was standing around casually watching people fire rounds.. sort of vaguely in its general direction. Only, all the bullets were landing on this cardboard cutout of what France is that the shooters themselves had put up. And it... neither looked anything like France, nor was it anywhere near it.
Now that the nightmare in France has been averted, i'm now interested in Yates' testimony, tomorrow.
EDIT: Lawd have mercy this shade Hillary is throwing on twitter is hilarious
Defeat to those interfering w/democracy. (But the media says I can't talk about that)

New Survey coming this weekend!France apparently has a law about the news reporting on the election for like twenty four hours or something, which means anyone wanting to talk about this would have to do so through social media. A blackout, they call it.
It's worth considering if that rule about the news reporting on it helped to kill any attempts at scandal making.
Well, considering Europe's Defeating the Undefeatable overseas, we can always do our own appeal to national pride and ego (you're being shown up by the Dutch and the French)...
Meanwhile on the local level: Democrats circle Atlanta statehouse seats where Trump struggled
But other districts in Atlanta’s suburbs may make for easier Democratic pickings. And it could start with two soon-to-be-opened state Senate seats.
David Shafer of Duluth and Hunter Hill of Smyrna both represent Senate districts that Hillary Clinton won in November. And both are vacating their seats to run for higher office – Hill for governor and Shafer for lieutenant governor.
Using November’s presidential returns, a Daily Kos elections analysis notes that the bluest GOP-held state Senate seat – and best pickup opportunity for Democrats – is represented by Hunter Hill. Fran Millar of Dunwoody is the third Republican in the Senate representing Clinton turf.
In the House, the landscape is even friendlier to Democrats. Only two Democrats represent districts taken by Donald Trump — Bill Mc Gowan of Americus and Bob Trammell of Luthersville. But 14 Republicans hold Clinton turf.
State Rep. Rich Golick of Smyrna represents the “bluest seat of the bunch” – Clinton carried his district 55 to 41 percent. Three other GO Pers are in territories that Clinton carried by double-digit margins.
Democratic Party of Georgia spokesman Michael Smith said the party is bullish on next year’s vote – but “not taking anything for granted.”
“Folks across the state are seeing the same stars align—and they’re coming out of the woodwork to run for office and help us build an even deeper bench.”
Kindly ignore the twitter profile in favor of my new favorite senator, Kamala Harris talking about the GOP health care atrocity, [1]
putting an exclamation point on her statement with F-bombs.
Good question, it may have well been ghost-written by somebody else, but it appeared on his Real Donald Trump account, if nothing else.
"Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his big win today as the next President of France. I look very much forward to working with him!"

I should not have needed to breathe a sigh of relief.
