Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Back to #No Ban No Wall protests again. Fun times. But the ACLU is on the case!

It's easy to forget since he's always compared to Trump, but...there is something wrong with Pence. While Trump practically flaunts his ugliness for the world to see, Pence...it's like there's something dark and writhing under a porcelain lid.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI know we've moved on from the incel thing, but I just had that type of horrifying revelation that makes you proud of what a good person you are: aside from my core values, my opinions of the female sex, my political beliefs, and my staunch moral code, I am exactly like those people. In all my 20 years of life (as of the 3rd of this month), I've never been in any sort of romantic relationship whatsoever, and I'm a little envious of the ease at which other people just seem to come into them. I could've been SO much worse as a person, that it makes me breathe a sigh of relief that I'm not.
So Mike Huckabee made an incredibly racist tweet "celebrating" Cinco de Mayo and I told him to go fuck himself.
Now I'm worried that antagonizing politicians on Twitter could have repercussions. I always try to word my angry tweets so that they can't be misconstrued as threats of violence, but ever since I heard about that lady that's being threatened with jail time for laughing at Sean Spicer, I've been concerned. The First Amendment is falling to pieces before our eyes.
Also it wasn't Spicer she laughed at it as Sessions, and she did so during a Senate hearing.
But yeah, the jury explicitly said she wasn't being punished for the laughing but for her other actions.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI men if you plan to attend a senate hearing, laugh at a senator and then refuse to leave quietly you should worry, otherwise no, no need to worry on that front.
The fact that Trump's White House has expressed a desire to modify the First Amendment should give you plenty fo reason to worry without having to look for other reasons.

Probably a good idea, thanks. I figured he had it coming, though. We don't want to make it easy for guys like him to flaunt their racism without being devoured on social media.
Christ, what a Manchild. "I'm gunna use my powuh as pwesident so no one ever hurts my feewings!"
For the record, Huckabee's racist tweet read as follows

For Cinco de Mayo I will drink an entire jar of hot salsa and watch old Speedy Gonzales cartoons and speak Spanish all day. Happy CdMayo!

Also, the FCC is investigating whether Colbert's calling Trump "Putin's cockholster" is obscene enough to warrant taking action.
At least one headline claims it's Trump wanting the investigation, but no articles, even that one, have stated he personally ordered it that I can see. Perhaps that's semantic, since the FCC is lead by a Trump appointee, but it's a distinction I feel merits mentioning.

Well, two bits of good news at least.
First, related to the AHCA debacle: New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman issues warning of legal action if Trumpcare is signed into law
.
And on another of Lord Dampnut's appointments: Homophobe and racist Mark Green withdraws from consideration for Army secretary
.
