Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

To ironballs:
Sexual assault was a pre-existing condition before Obamacare.
Pre-Obamacare, different places and insurance companies each have their own definitions of pre-existing condition, but since Obamacare banned denying insurance based on those conditions, it didn't mattered. With Trumpcare, it's the wild west of define your own conditions again.

That part I was aware of, but as I said, there's a major distinction in regards to motivation between "Let's roll back all of what Obama had done" (spite) and "Let's explicitly label rape, pregnancy, and domestic violence as pre-existing conditions" (For the Evulz), and the way people were talking about it on the previous page, it was coming across more as the latter.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"The GOP Senate won't vote on the House-passed healthcare bill. Instead, they will write their own legislature. It will attempt to incorporate elements of the House bill, but will not take up the House bill as a starting point and change it through the amendment process: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/senate-wont-vote-on-house-passed-healthcare-bill/article/2622152
@Ironball - I'm still looking but here's discussion of the pre-existing condition issue in general
- haven't found specifically what you're looking for yet.
A list of preexisting conditions under the GOP bill, from senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio:

There's also this: Under the House version of AHCA, schools would no longer be considered eligible for Medicare reimbursement, which is how they provide legally mandated services for kids with disabilities.

Seasonal affective disorder? I know someone who has that. It mostly just makes her feel like crap when it's dark out in the winter. She has a sun-lamp in her room that helps her a lot with it. It's not exactly a medication-heavy ailment. (At least for her, I don't know what it's like for other people.)

x3 So basically, anything and everything.
The solution's simple, people: Just don't get sick! And don't be born with anything! What's so hard about that?

@LSBK: I wouldn't say it's an unreasonable assumption. With the failure of the two Muslim bans and the first AHCA draft, I feel like we've been getting really lucky lately. Eventually, something horrible has to happen to balance it out. That something is probably gonna be this bill passing the Senate.
i'm tired, my friend
