Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

No, the only way you'd get the ACA back would be electing a triple Democrat federal government in 2020. Or somehow getting a veto proof majority in Congress in 2018 (not happening, unless some Republicans randomly develop the ability to feel pity again).
Also, having one party in exclusive control of a government for too long is a bad idea. You should change them out every 10-12 years.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.![]()
You're assuming that they won't straight up attempt to have them crushed.
The loophole that would exempt GOP congresspeople will be "addressed separately"

His house was bombed, death threats were routinely sent to him and he was ultimately assassinated.
And then privileged folks claim that he singlehandedly ended racism in the US.
Yeah, seems good.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotWhen is the vote supposed to take place, today? It'll be weird for them to try and frame this as a "win" when the ACA is the most popular it's ever been and most people will hate what's inside of this bill. Along with the insurance companies also being against this, apparently.
But I suppose that's what happens when ideology and needing to beat the other side trumps logic.

Trump releases Religious Liberty EO
, that tells the IRS to ignore the Johnson Amendment and allows Companies to deny Contraceptive Coverage for Religious Reasons. Fortunately, it does not contain anything allowing LGBTQ individuals to be discriminated against by Businesses. The ACLU is still filing a lawsuit against the EO.
So don't let anyone fool you with any of their bullshit "both sides" nonsense or faux-nuance to appear smarter than they actually are. These least 100+ days prove something absolutely:
Democrats are merely flawed, and have room to grow.
Republicans are genuinely evil.
This is the first time (that I can think of) where the government is really divided by Black-and-White Morality
New Survey coming this weekend!![]()
No. I'm sorry but there's absolutely no reason to believe that every Republican senator or representative is not rotten to the core.
They have proven time and time again that they act solely out of bigotry or selfishness, often both. They will throw their constituents and even the entire country under the bus for the smallest semblance of personal profit or for the chance to harm minorities.

Oh really when? The Republican representative from my district, Charlie Dent, is voting against AHCA and has taken many other reasonable policy positions. So it's not all of them, just most.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Politico on red state Democrats notching some victories
. It's a continuation of the theme of that Washington Post article I posted on Manchin a day or two back, examining how he and other red state Dems are claiming credit for recent GOP bills. Thought we could all use the good news.

Say guys...in case if the bill is passed...it would most of the USA go apeshit so much that the GOP might reconsider their choice if extremely pressured enough by the strikes and demonstrations?
The only good fanboy, is a redeemed fanboy.
