Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

There's another factor to it though. Namely that Rupert's children are a lot less conservative than Fox News. In fact, the Murdoch heirs want CNN's head to head Fox News. And Rupert's been heanding more power to them.
Here's a good article about it.
Fox News, launched that year, was not meant to be the right-wing lightning rod that it became under Roger Ailes. It was originally meant to compete with CNN for influence, stature and viewers in the new cable news business.
Forsaking establishment cred, the new network, in Ailes' aggressive bid for an under-served right-wing audience, went on to clobber CNN in ratings and profits. But 20 years later, CNN is again becoming the model for Murdoch's sons, Lachlan and James, as they envision a post-Ailes world. CNN's current chief, Jeff Zucker, is even said among industry insiders to be one of the sons' top choices to take over at Fox News.
Fox New's future is center-right especially once Rupert Murdoch sees.
Rupert's sons were apparently not cool with Shine heading Fox News after Ailes was kicked out and now Shine is out.

More than likely to make sure there is no infighting, and Beto O'Rourke stands a chance.

Why do I feel like he literally just learned that today by being on twitter. And he's just made it worse for himself. people will keep it up if they know it annoys him.

He's jealous of Jackson for all of his ethnic cleansing, Trump wants in on that action. Also he feels that Jackson would've avoided the war, somehow.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji Yang
Or maybe mixed him up with Andrew Johnson, who he did know about because his last name was Johnson.
Has everyone heard the whole clip? I feel like he may be bluffing through half of it.
"They destroyed his wife, and she died."
Andrew Jackson had a big heart?! (Really need an introbang)

Elizabeth Warren says Barack Obama does not understand 'lived experience of most Americans'
What the fuck?!
Does she not know or remember what Obama's childhood and early adulthood was like? His life before President, in fact?
This is full blown pandering to WWC.
Obama is the only winner our party has left, and its current leaders are rushing to shit on him so they can get some Bern-cred. This is disgusting.
New Survey coming this weekend!I'm not really seeing the pandering there. She didn't just say Obama, she said most politicians on both sides. At least not pandering specific to "WWC"'s which I guess is just a thing we're saying now.
And I'm not really seeing the "Bern-cred" either since she specifically called out something where she disagrees with Sanders.

New York hates Donald Trump and anything to do with his family.

And there goes my remaining respect for Warren. I already posted a long time ago that I didn't approve of her demonizing Wall Street and her simplistic views of banking, but this? Yeah, I'm done. I'm glad she's probably not going to run for President in 2020.
At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if she falls over herself sucking up to Trump just because he supposedly claimed he's open to bringing back Glass-Steagall.
That said, if she does end up the Democratic Party candidate in 2020 somehow, I'll still vote for her because she's better than Trump (an incredibly low bar).

Disgusted, but not surprisedI found a really nice response to an Op-Ed in the New York Times, expressing climate change skepticism. It's a conservitive arguement for adressing Climate change and shows how it doesn't need to be a partisan issue.

I mean, my first instinct with that would be more that she's "pandering" to all the enthused youths who went for Bernie, and those people were most certainly not (just) white and/or working class. Even then, she went out to make a distinction between herself and him.
Of course, there are a fair share of potential problems with that, but it's not as simple as "She's after poor-whites and forget everyone else", or anything like that.

@Tactical Fox 88: The full quote from the interview
that article sites doesn't seem nearly as scathing/damning as you make it out to be. . .
“Worse than being left behind, they’re getting kicked in the teeth.”

There was bullying, blackmail, bribery, extortion going on towards the government, but the deal only fell through with the hacking scandal exploded, and Murdoch became too hot to handle for a while. The fitness aspect was tossed in because of the hacking scandal.
This deal has been rumbling on for a couple of months now, because as soon as he felt the hacking scandal had quietened down and there was too much focus on other things (Brexit), he kicked it off again. It predates all the changes at Fox by months, so I'm not sure if the two are connected.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
