Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Remember also that Bannon was downgraded in part because Trump was annoyed that people (including the "lying media" that Trump obsesses around. I doubt that Obama cared much about what Breitbart had to say about him) kept saying "Trump is Bannon's puppet", "President Bannon" and so on.
So if the evil dog starts taking advice from unsavoury people (e.g Paul Ryan), keep your "President Ryan", "Trump is Ryan's puppet" and so on headlines ready!
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmanso basically Zaphod Beeblebrox then. ; )

I mean yeah, pretty much.
You're saying Sean Hannity is also a creep towards women? I am shocked. Shocked, I say!
Also, have we had any commentary on the softwood lumber thing yet? If so, I'd like to go back and read those pages.

Zaphod Beeblebrox is a bit too extreme for what Royko had in mind. Zaphod was more like a crazy Hollywood celebrity mired in endless scandals. Royko's idea was that a Figurehead President would soothe and reassure the public like the King/Queen of Great Britain, not stir up a shit-storm of controversy.

This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Looks like whatever people are doing is working. They still don't have the votes to pass Trumpdontcare.

Also, Zaphod the Nothingth is far more likeable than Trump. Just wanted to get that out there.
That's interesting, to say the least.
I don't see how there is any legal standing for such a suit. But LePage is certifiable, so there's no telling why he's doing it.
Edit: Zaphod's whole purpose was to be a flamboyant distraction from the real powers running things. If only that were Trump's purpose.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ah, LePage, that guy's a piece of work, as it is. I'm not the least bit surprised he'd try something like this. Not from a man who vetoed a bill
to help heroin addicts by increasing access to an antidote by claiming 'Naloxone does not truly save lives; it merely extends them until the next overdose,'. Or from a guy who left an obscene voicemail
to a critic and expressed a desire to have him killed.

Ah, Governor Le Page. A walking case study on why vote splitting is a fucking horrible idea, and why 3rd parties/candidates on the left/center-left should fuck right off.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Trump says he is willing to raising Gas Taxes for his Infrastructure Plan.
Now Republicans don't get to say crap about Cali. Governor Jerry Brown who is proposing the same for his state.
Comcast actually came out in support of net neutrality.
In surprise, Republican says he's a no on healthcare bill

Just straight up spite at this point.
Regarding this, the spokesperson quote is, I think, the telling factor:
Note the use of 'brand'. Yes, Trump does appear to have a very weird and very personal grudge against Obama and appears to be pushing more White House and Congress resource into undoing Obama than into creating his own legacy (ignoring the idea of 'undoing Obama' being his legacy).
However, this also appears to be about Trump's obsession with 'name branding'. As a businessman, he slaps his name onto everything, and seems to think that alone is enough to make him own it. Therefore, if anything in government has a brand name, he's going to make sure he undoes it solely because it's not Trump branding. That's on top of his Obama obsession.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
At the same time he also seems obsessed with the idea of Obama liking and supporting him. Note his gushing about the letter Obama left in the Oval Office desk. He also likes the idea of Obama being as obsessed with him. Note the accusations of wire-tapping — clear-cut case of projecting his own obsession with Obama.
He might not even realize it, but he's likely internalized Obama as the embodiment of what it means to be a President. Just look at his inauguration cake: a replica of Obama's that was mostly made of styrofoam. At the same time, he wants to "beat" Obama. Thus his presidency is a half-assed attempt to out-Obama Obama.
Repeal and replace: "Oh, Obama gave America healthcare? Well I'll give'em even biglier and better healthcare!"
The Wall: "Obama pushed out more undocumented immigrants? Well I'll build a big and beautiful wall to keep them out for good!"
Picking fights with North Korea: "Obama got Bin Laden? Well I'll get Kim Jong-un!"
Shit, he even takes more golf breaks than Obama.

Disgusted, but not surprisedAh so this explains why Fox News is doing some major re-hauling.
They're trying to buy Sky News but that's pending on UK regulators who need to decide whether it'd be under fit hands.
Figures that's why they got rid of the guy of Irish descent.

Disgusted, but not surprisedTrump has no idea what's in the republican Healthcare bill, or he's lying.

At this point I'm struggling to find something with which to compare Trump that won't result in Insult to Rocks.
Even a dumpster fire would be insulted by the comparison.
Disgusted, but not surprised

I think the best thing to do right now would be to get #Deport Melania trending on twitter so much and get one of his followers to agree and spread it like wildfire. That would get sir tinyhands angry enough that he won't want to govern.
