Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

this article has what is possibly the best description I've seen of Trump yet: The Razzle-Dazzle President.
This is only part of it so just for posterity: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C9dFKRZ8EbU

Using Milo Yiandjfksjdnfopolous and pop culture at large to characterize all millennials sounds like a shallow characterization and a poorly researched judgment.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesNewfangled things scare me. I am terrified by change. Vaccines cause North Korea. Autism is on the rise because the chemtrails are melting steel beams. And asian doctors on airplanes are just asking for it with those clothes they are wearing.
I read it on the internets, so it must be the trues.

I guess it would only be a matter of time before he attacked an ally everyone agrees shouldn't be one. Too bad he's harder on an actual ally then on a frienemy.
Great. Like I needed more reasons to think the generation that came after mine is as dumb as a sack of hammers.
So if Millennials are the generation after yours, that would make you, what, a Gen Xer? The generation who stood up and proclaimed in a single voice, "Meh, whatever," and disengaged from any and all activity toward shaping the future, thereby allowing the goddamn Boomers to stay in power and feel justified in screwing over Millenials because they assume we're just as lazy and self-absorbed as you wads were?
Let he whose generation is without sin throw the first stone.

No, actually. Millenial. I guess I just counted the radicalized 13-to-15-year-olds that Yiannopolous mentioned as a completely separate generation to the millenials due to the cultural differences to the early-Millenials (namely, the return to the nihilism of the Gen-Xers and the support of Trump) regardless of actual time spent.

x3 Also, aren't Gen X'ers technically responsible for making Nihilism cool, at least culturally, in the US?
Oh, you're referring to Gen Z'ers...
... I hope and pray they don't follow Yiannopolis's lead of 'Troll' Politics, regardless of what side it's on.

Y'all handle weird ass definitions of "generations". Belonging to certain generation does not accurately predict your political leanings, interests. The ones we can know more of are the baby boomers: After all the impact they had was the largest one so far.

This. And just because Milo said he would look at the next generation doesn't mean it'll work, aren't we being a tad presumptive writing off an entire generation?

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI wouldn't start worrying until the majority of them start reaching adulthood and they are expressing those opinions.
At their age I was a very religious, neo-conservative . Now I am atheist, liberal, social democrat. So there is still plenty of room for them to change, if indeed as many of them are alt-right as Milo would like you to believe.
Wait, why is Milo Yiannopoulos of all people being treated as a definitive voice on the political opinions of a generation that the oldest member of hasn't even reached legal adulthood yet?

That's nice. Not sure I completely believe them, but that's nice. It's odd how they're doing this during Trump's Administration, though...
When I was thirteen (2003; Iraq War all day e'rry day), I felt like I was a lone liberal swimming in a sea of neoconservatism.
Teenagers are fucking morons — you can't really gauge their political leanings until they vote and their minds are still porous.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."

These kinds of Millenial bashing things always make me think "Well we may be little shits but who raised us to be that way?" Seriously, all the tech that's supposedly making us entitled pricks was invented by Boomers. The participation trophies they whine about? Given to us by Boomers. Even our spending habits get criticized despite the fact that we're struggling to survive in the economy the Boomers ruined.
