Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Really. It's their name for the alpha jock bad boy they think all women, everywhere, are biologically and psychologically wired to want to have sex with. They believe that all women spend their high school and college years having sex with "Chads" (excuse me, "riding the cock carousel") then, after their "sexual market value drops" marry "beta providers" for those "beta bucks"...while of course continuing to cheat on them with Chad at every possible opportunity.
Basically, the incels are "why do girls only have sex with assholes" turned into a political movement. That Chad does not really exist eludes them. That he'd still be a better person than them if he did exist, is of course one of the greatest ironies of that entire situation.
It should be noted that incels are very torn on whether they should hate Chad or want to be him and worship him (the latter group can get very homoerotic in terms of their descriptions of him). Either way, it fueled their support for Trump—the haters want him to ruin the lives of the "normies" and "beta providers" the way they think there's have been ruined, while of course the worshipers look at him and see something to be idolized. In their twisted worldview, Donald Trump is Chad, and how you chose to deal with him is entirely tied up with that fact. That he doesn't actually fit the stereotype (what with being old, ugly, and dependent on money to attract women) is something they don't particularly want to talk about (love him or hate him, Bill Clinton would be a far better fit for the "Chad" title).

x5 Sorry, but even that isn't a Victory Condition: Too many supporters and Republicans have backed him through thick and thin. If Trump Abdicated, the Always-Trumpers and a lot of Republicans would go crazy. And the Always-Trumpers may be as small as 10% of the Population, but a Victory wouldn't piss off 10-35% of the Population.
Trump really has no choice for Victory, at all.

More or less, also factor in his rejection of any fact that doesn't fit his feelings or narrative and you have a spectacularly incompetent president.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangTillerson: US willing to take military action against North Korea
So this is it. We're all going to die.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Well, we're not. I don't know where you live. If it's South Korea or Japan, bunker down.
But North Korea doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of actually threatening the States. If Trump follows through on his threats, it'll stir a hornet's nest and result in countless innocent lives lost, but few of them will be Americans.
EDIT: This, naturally, will translate into a triumphant success and the greatest action ever committed by a sitting President in the eyes of his followers.

We won't die, just millions of Koreans and Japanese people, but America will survive. And the people who voted him in would cheer that action on while millions die, because they're wretches.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangNo. North Korea can't do jack to the US. They can make things rather messy for South Korea, though, and if we actually start bombing the place, China might get pissed off. China lacks force projection capability, so they aren't a territorial threat to the U.S., and there's no way this goes nuclear. They aren't that crazy.
Now, Kim Jong Un might be that crazy, but the only places for his nukes to go are South Korea or China. Maybe Japan, but I doubt they have functional missiles that will reach that far.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
It's stupid as anything but we don't really have to fear North Korea. They can't even be a threat with an idiot like Trump leading us. They can't even handle launching a missile.
@M84: Sorry about that dude. Hope he doesn't actually go through with it.
If we do get into a "military action" with NK and win I think his followers would cheer. Just cause "we've finally won a war again! That proves we are back on top, now women will be back in the kitchen, gays will go away etc...just like the 1940s!"

Is Taiwan in any danger? I should think China would protect you.

Good point, by "we" I meant the Americans living in the Continental United States. God the fact that this is a possibility fills me with rage, that people could vote for him and the sheer potential of human suffering because of that is incredibly awful. The stupidity is awe-inspiring.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangHuh. I admit to not fully understanding the China/Taiwan relationship.
I remember China getting pissy about Trump acknowledging Taiwan that one time, early on.
Still don't see how Taiwan would be in the firing line, though. Does North Korea have a grudge against Taiwan too?

And all that was going to happen in the first hundred days. What's one more impossible/broken promise?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah, I am very worried for the South Koreans if Trump goes to war with North Korea. Even though North Korea will most likely lose, and lose terribly, it won't be without a lot of Dead South Koreans, and possibly a nuked Seoul. On top of that, the Reunification of the Korea's will take so long and the North will be so chaotic for years with a bunch of actually Brainwashed N. Koreans terrorizing the other Koreans (and potentially the Chinese and Americans as well); not to mention the starvation, minor brainwashing and power problems that a Reunified Korea will have for Decades.
I guess if the North Korean regime had to be brought down through war, though, the best person to bring it down would be Trump; a man so unpopular he doesn't care about starting a war with a war weary people against a weak, pathetic nation that represents the old threats we used to willingly fight.

Heh, you actually think N. Korea has good aim with their missiles.
The idea that an off-course missile might end up killing me is somehow worse than if it was deliberately targeting Taiwan. It's just embarrassing.
As if I needed more reasons to think unkindly of Trump voters.

Disgusted, but not surprised

@Zendervai
Xi Jinping's managed to last this long without being literally knifed in the back while vying for power in the CCP. I'll give him that.
And he's authoritarian as hell. Guy wants to become as unquestioned and revered a leader as Mao was.
