Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Those, and threatening to terminate the South Korean missile defense deal
while in the middle of escalating tensions with North Korea,
seems like pretty good basis for screaming externally.
Oh, and here's another highlight:
"It's a possibility, we're talking to both. It's a possibility, but I want to see peace with Israel and the Palestinians. There is no reason there's not peace between Israel and the Palestinians - none whatsoever. So we're looking at that and we're also looking at the potential of going to Saudi Arabia."

The Republicans still don't have the votes for Trumpcare 3.0. I guess the fact that they're so divided, is our saving grace.

You know how everyone speculated that Trump is in way over his head and has no idea what he's doing? Well you were right.

As I mentioned before I frequent FSTDT, but I'm certain as hell that the people who actually want to live vastly outnumber the likes of Rapture Ready.
Since I've been following the Alex Jones/Chobani thing, and I think this topic was brought up when I posted updates, I found a story on my feed confirming Alex Jones has lost custody of this children.
Lost primary custody, if you want to get specific.

How does joint custody = lost custody?
Justice Department is widening investigation into Fox News
And since this happened under a Republican president, they can't claim political persecution. ![]()

No one has actually said what "poison pills" are.
Are you unclear about the definition of the term "poison pill" or about what, specifically, in the GOP budget constitutes poison pills for the Democrats?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"My understanding of the definition is that poison pills are additions to a bill that are placed to guarantee it won't pass
More exactly, it's meant to ensure one side or the other opposes what, on the surface, seems like a good or even necessary bill, such as a temporary spending measure to avoid a government shutdown, because most people aren't going to pay attention to the devil in the details.

Re: That Reuters article:
"More than five months after his victory and two days shy of the 100-day mark of his presidency, the election is still on Trump's mind. Midway through a discussion about Chinese President Xi Jinping, the president paused to hand out copies of what he said were the latest figures from the 2016 electoral map."
Wow, just wow...this is truly the fragilest ego.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."@megaeliz: A "poison pill" is a provision in a bill, contract, or other proposal that guarantees that at least one of the parties involved will not or cannot endorse it. Its origin is in corporate buyouts, when a corporation threatened with a hostile takeover would create something called a "shareholder rights plan"
, allowing existing shareholders to purchase discounted stock if any one shareholder acquired more than 20 percent of the corporation. This would both dilute the stock price and massively increase the cost of the buyout, making the purchase less attractive.
Since then the term has spread to other areas, like politics.

To me, it's arbitrary. They're all sub-divisions of a vague universal caste system in the US that involves gender, economic class, race and sexuality. They're all linked.
Ideally, you'd want to help everyone so that involves a progressive socio-economic platform but we don't have many Democrats with such a platform. So some Dems will only tackle specific parts of it and pay lip service to others.
But I guess, you have to decide which of those sub-divisions are the most in need of help and prioritize. And everyone has different priorities.
I mean you're right that those who prioritize economic justice can come off as tone-deaf to minorities but those who prioritize social justice can also alienate a lot of low income white people because they feel they're being ignored.
