Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Didn't one of the Captain Planet villains pull a legit Heel–Face Turn? That's better than your average GOP politician is capable of these days...
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.![]()
Yes Duke Nukem, (Yeah he had the same name as the video game character/series).
Well their rich, they earned it! (/s)
But back on topic, anyone else worried about Sanctuary cities? Since the wall plan is currently a failure he might try to pick that fight. Just to prove he isn't so impotent as president.

Once again, Trump forgets that President =/= King.
Edit:
In other news, the USA just lost a trade battle with Mexico over tuna.
Essentially, the WTO ruled in favor of Mexico in a suit that they filed in 2008 claiming unfair discrimination against Mexican tuna. The USA now owes Mexico about $163 million which it can get back via trade sanctions. That's right, Mexico is now free to slap the USA with trade sanctions.
Now I'm wondering how much Trump's trade spat with Canada over lumber and dairy is going to cost the USA. Probably a lot more than the $500 million Trudeau himself claimed the USA would lose when he tried to dissuade Trump from this idiocy.

Disgusted, but not surprised
TBF, this shit was going on long before Trump became POTUS, though it may not be a coincidence that the suit was settled in Mexico's favor around the time Trump is threatening another idiotic trade war.
Basically, the U.S. claimed that Mexico's tuna was not dolphin-safe and used that as justification to keep Mexican tuna from being sold in the U.S. Mexico claims that their tuna is dolphin-safe and that the U.S. was just being an unfair dick to them, and launched their suit in 2008.

Disgusted, but not surprisedRestrictions on how the tuna are caught so that dolphins aren't killed in the process, which Mexico said were being unfairly applied only to them.
In all fairness, this was an issue going back to W. Bush and all through Obama's administration. I'm not gonna blame Trump for this but it is deliciously ironic even if it is embarrassing for the country.
M84'd.

Obama is now doing 400 k speeches for Wall Street.
He deplored high bonuses paid to bank executives, and said Wall Street shared blame for the 2008 financial crisis.
Some liberals have criticised Mr Obama's speech decision, with one writer saying it "will undermine everything he believes in".
The New York Post said his speech fee made him "Wall Street's newest fat cat".
Yeah just give Trump more ammo, Obama.

He's a millionaire already. Forgive me if I don't cry.
Why are you even bringing up that he's black? Are you trying to pivot this into me being a racist?
I've already said he was Wall Street's candidate.
I'm specifically annoyed at how awful this looks in concerns to the Democratic Party at a time when it's trying to not look like the party of corporations.
