Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If that's true, then Osoff is going to have to campaign as hard as hell if he wants to overcome his top Republican Rival, which appears to be Karen Handal.
I knew we were getting a Run off. 48% is pretty good for one candidate in an 18 man race, though. And he's guaranteed this 48% in June, but like I said, he's gotta run, run, run. No rest, no stops, no gaffs.
I wouldn't assume much of a turnout boost could happen for either side- this was pretty much as well-publicized as non-presidential elections get.
We can probably assume Ossof automatically gets a 1% boost in the run-off from whatever he gets here, because of people who voted for the other democrats that were running. Other than that, we'll have to see how things play out.
But there are other special elections in the meantime.
And that means engaging people who are starting to doubt Trump. The good thing that might come out of this(if it can be considered good,) is that Trump will have even more time to show off his incompetence, which could help swing votes. This may also flip some of the "let's give him a chance" people as it is further into his term. .

As usual, Trump was fucking bluffing like he always does. I guess that line of Independence Day can make more sense now.

I think the word you're looking for...is either Bad Liar or Dirty Coward.
Welp, we gotta gear up for Round Two then:
Jon Ossoff on runoff against Karen Handel: ‘Bring it on’
Republicans begin to rally behind Karen Handel in Georgia runoff
Donald Trump to Georgia Republicans: You’re welcome!
Casting his high-40s performance in the vote as a “victory for the ages,” he said he and his supporters “shattered expectations” in the Republican-leaning district.
“So bring it on. Because we are courageous,” he said. “We are humble. And we know how to fight.”
After months of vicious infighting, Georgia Republicans began to rally around Karen Handel on Wednesday as she prepared for a June 20 runoff against Democrat Jon Ossoff.
Handel, a former Georgia secretary of state, was pummeled by attacks from GOP rivals who cast her as a closet liberal who compromised too much with Democrats while she chaired Fulton County’s commission.
Bob Gray, a former Johns Creek Councilman, was one of her fiercest critics. His campaign falsely claimed that Handel had dropped out of the race and endorsed him, and distributed a digital ad that super-imposed Handel’s head next to a wind-surfing John Kerry.
Gray tweeted late Tuesday that he is going to “rally behind” Handel. “We wish her Godspeed,” he added.
Other former rivals also quickly backed her campaign.
Karen Handel declined to mention the words “Donald Trump” in her 10 minute victory speech.
Trump loyalists in the Sixth District contest fared poorly:
Bob Gray made allegiance to Donald Trump the cornerstone of his campaign, and got about 10 percent of the vote and came under a barrage of criticism over his pro-Trump bona fides.
And Bruce Le Vell, head of Trump’s diversity coalition, got less than 1 percent of the vote. He also put Trump at the center of his campaign, and even made a last-minute trek to the White House to visit with the president.
Nonetheless, President Trump claimed victory a few minutes ago:
- Despite major outside money, FAKE media support and eleven Republican candidates, BIG "R" win with runoff in Georgia. Glad to be of help!

The only good fanboy, is a redeemed fanboy.

Ouf. That's really close. Enough to make me optimistic about the run-off, anyway- he can probably count on gaining at least 1% there. And the kind of numbers that'll make 2018 a breeze.
