Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."
That or she's insane.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Arnold is one of the few members of the Republican Party who isn't complete and utter scum and has understandable reasons for joining the party to begin with (ie his experiences with socialism in his home country).
It is exactly right to point out that he is what people think Trump is. And to be honest if more Republicans were like him we would have that proper conservative party that is so desperately needed for America to have a future.

Trump just renamed Black History Month to African American History Month.

BHM is about other Blacks too? Does it talk about Haiti and the USA's role in re-subjugating them? Cuba? Brazil? Liberia? Pre-Colonial Africa?
Also, I never miss an excuse to drop this

Oh come now, that's just nitpickey. African American has been a PC term for Black people for years, and even the Obama team (apparently) used the term 'African-American History Month'. Don't try to make something PC ant-PC, that's not cool.
![]()
The original name for the Month was indeed Black History Month, but as time moved on, it became less PC to call them Black and more PC to call them African Americans. Although most Black people could care less if you called them Black or African American, African American is technically the more PC term in Modern Day America.

As far as I can remember it was mostly about the Ameri-African slave trade, the Civil War, the Underground Railroad, and the Civil Rights movement.
We learned about Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr.
Sorry. Knee-jerked.

Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youIt's a Fox affiliate, not Fox News itself. I would've warned you if it was Fox News.
Maybe I should've linked to the press report.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Invalid votes cast during the election outnumbered Trump's margin of victory in FL
.
Thanks, guys...
I mean she would've lost anyway but still

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonOne possible insidious interpretation of the name change is that Trump might have some white South African buddy he wants to name-drop and connect to the month. Bonus points if it's some pro-apartheid scumbag.
Or maybe it's just an attempt at some token bone-tossing to try to bring up to justify his next racist shitbag move.
Good start, but it would be interesting to take a more global view. Malcolm X certainly did, after traveling a little.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I don't think this has been posted yet; Stephanie Murphy (Rep. Florida) has filed a bill that would remove Stephen Bannon from the NSC
If you're going to call your reps about this, you should probably mention the whole "burn down the state" thing.

Arnold is okay in my book. That was a very nice "Fuck you", from a celebrity businessman who actually took his Governor job seriously and performed adequately, and who knew his own limits.
