There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Reuters: Trump to focus counter-extremism program solely on Islam
.
This bit was the part that stuck out to me (bolding mine):
Goddamn Trump is on a roll. Not only is he tearing through our relationships with China, Iran and Mexico but now Australia.
Instead, President Trump blasted Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull over a refugee agreement and boasted about the magnitude of his electoral college win, according to senior U.S. officials briefed on the Saturday exchange. Then, 25 minutes into what was expected to be an hour-long call, Trump abruptly ended it.
At one point Trump informed Turnbull that he had spoken with four other world leaders that day — including Russian President Vladimir Putin — and that, “This was the worst call by far.”
Trump’s behavior suggests that he is capable of subjecting world leaders, including close allies, to a version of the vitriol he frequently employs against political adversaries and news organizations in speeches and on Twitter.
“This is the worst deal ever,” Trump fumed as Turnbull attempted to confirm that the United States would honor its pledge to take in 1,250 refugees from an Australian detention center. Trump, who one day earlier had signed an executive order temporarily barring the admissions of refugees, complained that he was “going to get killed” politically and accused Australia of seeking to export the “next Boston bombers.”
U.S. officials said that Trump has behaved similarly in conversations with leaders of other countries, including Mexico. But his treatment of Turnbull was particularly striking because of the tight bond between the United States and Australia — countries that share intelligence, support one another diplomatically and have fought together in wars including in Iraq and Afghanistan. “I don’t want these people,” Trump said. He repeatedly misstated the number of refugees called for in the agreement as 2,000 rather than 1,250, and told Turnbull that it was “my intention” to honor the agreement, a phrase designed to leave the U.S. president wiggle room to back out of the deal in the future, according to a senior U.S. official.
Turnbull told Trump that to honor the agreement, the United States would not have to accept all of the refugees but only to allow them each through the normal vetting procedures. At that, Trump vowed to subject each refugee to “extreme vetting,” the senior U.S. official said.
Trump was also skeptical because he did not see a specific advantage the United States would gain by honoring the deal, officials said.
Took the words right out of my mouth. Screw that guy.

Not even hiding it anymore, huh? Sure, white supremacists are a way more dangerous source of domestic terrorism than radical Islam. But they're also his base.
I'm starting to worry that Trump honestly believes all the bullshit he either says or hears, and has no ability to recognize reality from fantasy unless it impacts him negatively. It'd explain why he keeps giving Bannon so much God forsaken power.
In short, we elected Eric effin' Cartman as President!
Is he seriously think anyone in the world besides him obviously give a damn about this? Is he trying to intimidate someone with this crap? This is just so weird... Reality just curb-stomp fiction right there.
Only an experienced editor who has a name possesses the ability to truly understand my work - What 90% of writers I'm in charge of said. No, Trump is Cartman. Mr. Garrison at least realized how in over his head he was, and if it weren't for the Member-Berries, he'd probably have just quit the day he won the Election and let Kate Jenner be President.
Trump is the type of man who, when he's told something good about himself, believes it to no ends and will hold onto it and gloat about it to others, while rejecting anything negative as a 'lie' or an 'over-exaggeration' if it's about him. If he causes an Economic Recession, he'd deny that there is a Recession at all, or he'd say that it's other people intentionally sabotaging the Economy to ruin him, because there are always people out there trying to make him look bad or feel bad.
Mr. Garrison was a Narcissist, but also a Realist (until the Berries). Cartman is (or, was) flat out insane and delusional. And the worst part is, we gave him authoriteh.
@Capsase and Mad Skillz: thanks. Anything about internal politics? (I heard he got a SCOTUS nominee, with Trump being as he is, I'm guessing it was not the "actually, he's pretty moderate" guy).
1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KVHe sees them as competitors, maybe?

Oh God! Natural light!![]()
That's the impression I'm getting. Like, one of the world leaders from some random country could look at him funny during a visit or something, and then the next day he'd find some reason to criticize the country they're from entirely out of spite.
Also I'm not sure why it surprises me that the Trump administration and the rest of the scum at its pillars is growing ever more blunt about the whole racism thing. Why else point out that they won't target white supremacist terrorists if not to encourage them to act further?
