Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Actually, it might be interesting to watch a televised debate that isn't based on the premise of trying to gain the presidency. Depending on how this one goes, it might actually prove useful to have members of Congress regularly debating on live tv about their ideals and party policies.
The other option is it might not go anywhere, but hell they must both thing this is a useful way to put forth their agenda if they've both agreed to it.
I have no idea where anyone's arrows are pointing anymore. Everything is tiny kittens.
I feel like I'm becoming numb to all this and I hate that. When Trump first announced it on the campaign trail I was outraged, but now that it's there I just...feel disapproving. I hate that about myself, and I think it speaks to what Trump has done to himself.
Now if he goes the full nine yards and bans all Muslim immigration, then I will be outraged, you better believe it. If he creates that registry, then you bet your ass I'm taking to the streets.

As it turns out, the refugee ban also has interrupted the refugee program for Central American children fleeing violence in their home countries
. Violence fueled by the War on Drugs, that is.

Let's not waste time on coming up with juvenile names for everyone because that's a waste of fucking time for a whole list of reasons.
Also, Link, a person can't just keep up a high level of anger constantly, and it's frankly unhealthy for your ongoing mental state. It doesn't mean you've stopped caring, seeing as you're looking into ways to try and improve the situation.

Alternatively, given that this is an obscure online forum and the fate of the world doesn't exactly hinge on how we allot our quote-unquote fucking time, people can come up with whatever mocking nicknames for the new administration they want. (Evil does hate to be mocked, after all.)
