Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I really didn't mean it as harshly as it sounded. It was more like a professor lecturing a student. Saturday morning cartoon villains exist for a reason. There actually have been people who were just that obviously evil. Heck, there are people who think Machiavelli was writing his honest opinion about rulership when he penned that satirical work The Prince. He wasn't. He was lambasting the crap out of the trends he saw in the world leaders of his time.

Trudeau must balance protecting Canada’s values and its jobs
Cross posting this from the Canadian thread. The US has basically become Canada's antithesis overnight, especially on trade and foreign policy.
Gist is that Trudeau has to avoid selling Canada's soul and prevent Trump from having a tantrum and destroying our economy. But that might be an impossible balance.
I'm not optimistic. The North American alliance is probably dead, though its not quite as doomed as the US-European alliance.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.@Link To The Future Probably not. They've promised it'll create jobs, so they need to get started on the pipeline. Taking on the Natives adds more for us to get distracted over, and any jobs that come of it will probably muddy the waters for anyone who's barely giving two shits about the Muslim ban anyway. There's enough people in my area who don't like Muslims anyway that I haven't heard jack fucking shit about the ban or any protests in my area about it. I've never outright seen anyone mess with the Muslims shopping at my store, but Sam's Club shoppers tend to behave themselves better than folks shopping at stores they don't pay to enter.

@Journeyman: Don't worry, no hard feeling. I know that there are people who are stupid evil, but I don't expect them to be in charge of a first-world country. And here I thought that Trump already bad. Plato already predicted that democracy will eventually lead to tyranny which I guess means Trump. Although, this is a flawed case, considering that America's democracy is kinda flawed. But, even he don't see someone like Bannon could be in charge.
Only an experienced editor who has a name possesses the ability to truly understand my work - What 90% of writers I'm in charge of said.I'm pretty sure they would kill him regardless of him pissing them off. Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves and all that.

Yeah, I think it's probably that they just don't care rather than actively going out of their way to spite the opposition here. Still, it really sucks. I'm moving towards being a full-blown environmentalist, and I think my last step will be finding out about how fossil fuels can be replaced in a smooth and economical manner, because right now, no matter how much it sucks, the world runs on oil. However, the DAPL sucks because of the aforementioned treatment of the Natives.

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonThis sort of thing is disturbing on several levels.

The only person from Fox I know they hired was Meagan Kelly, who was very Anti-Trump through most of his Run.
And we don't have to support the network's views or tactics, but we absolutely have to support their right to report and not be banned from reporting just because they may or may not be nice to the President.
My bad. I don't watch a lot of TV News.
But my point still stands!

This won't end well.
