Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

By implementing something as cruel and grossly unconstitutional as this, he knows that the right will embrace it, while the left reviles it, widening the division in the nation and sparking mass protests. Which leads the right to view the left more than ever as traitors and enemies, dehumanizing us in their eyes.
Which may all be leading up to a Tiananmen Square style situation. Frankly, at this rate, I don't see how we don't get a day sooner or later when troops or police are ordered to fire upon civilian protestors.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."It will be like the ending to V For Vendetta, except I'm not sure that US forces/police will hold their fire.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.University here (Canada) is cheaper for citizens anyway, right?
But yeah, if the Republicans think the refugee crisis is bad now, I assure them that it is going to get so much worse with climate change. Very few people actually want to move away from their homes and everything they know, but when the conditions get bad enough they feel like they don't have any other choice.

Trump is secretly pulling a Zero Approval Genghis Gambit to get the divided nation of America against him by acting like as much of a moron as possible

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas Edison@ Link To The Future: Won't work-too many people in this country look at everything he has done and say, unironically, " This is fine."
Consider my post in absolute Sincerity Mode.

Hence the Joking Mode.
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonFeinstein is going to introduce two bills in retaliation to the Muslim ban.
The first would immediately rescind the executive order. The second would remove the President's ability to unilaterally ban groups of immigrants.
Will it get the support it needs, is the question. Barely a handful of GOP Congress members have spoken out against the ban.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."Tell Graham and Mccain to put their money where their mouth is, and sign on the dotted line. Then make a run at Susan Collins, who refused to Endorse Trump on moral grounds-same put up or shut up moment. In the House, put it on the floor and require a written reason to oppose the motion by anyone who refuses to sign-at least get an idea of where their sticking points are.
Call me naive, but it'd be baffling if McCain and Graham didn't defect on this after talking about how much they were against it. If so, that just needs one more defection...if those two actually put their votes where their mouths are.
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonIt might pass the Senate if Graham and McCain find a spine (which would be a momentous occasion indeed), and Collins finds a conscience. Do we all pretty much agree that it has no real chance of passing the House, though?
Only way I see that happening is if they yield to the outrage of their constituents, like what happened with the ethics incident. I guess I'm calling my Congressman again.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."

I'm actually a Canadian citizen and have lived there for most of my life, so I already know a few places and have other reasons why I'd want to return.
That list could still be helpful though. Thanks for that.
