There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations

before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

So Bannon's plan is to destroy American society and the Republican Party so he could remake it.
Ryan, Priebus and Pence want to use Trump as a tool to enact their agenda and then ditch him.
And Trump wants people to love and praise him and to get even richer.
Guess who has had the most success this far
If you ask me, we're already in a constitutional crisis. A lot of people just don't know it yet.
Trump is a traitor, an aspiring tyrant, and an illegitimate president. He has already violated the Constitution numerous times and will continue to do so if we let him. HE GOT TO GO.
Also, did we mention that not only is Darth Bannon being appointed to the National Security Council, he's replacing the Director of National Intelligence? Who Trump removed with an executive order? Did we talk about how fucking harrowing that is?
This
former CIA member says it makes her physically ill. If she's worried, we should be really worried.

"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."Guys, I need help.
My girlfriend lives in Singapore. We've been in a long distance relationship for almost eight years now. We were planning on getting married this or next year, and her moving to the states with me. But because of Trump I'm not sure how possible that is now. The immigration ban apparently affects greencards, but would it affect her working here? I know that it suspends the U.S. visa waiver program, which effects Singapore. It looks like I'm probably going to have to move to Singapore or Canada if we're going to be together.
Looks like someone needs a wake-up call for the future.

The future will be Screwed by the Lawyers. That would make sense, but I don't think it's the point you wanted to make.
Seriously, what is that video?

thebeatles.com/careersI know this song. Pretty sure she's a Russian.
A horrible thought I just had. Trump IS a traitor. That deluded, horrible man is probably going to be executed (possibly publicly) for his crimes against the country. On the one hand, he deserves a horrible fate for inflicting this on us. On the other hand . . . that's not going to turn our country into anything good. A lot of people are either not seeing or not paying attention to what we're seeing, so they're going to look at that, and they're going to think the GOP are swell guys for finally freeing us of that tyrant.
We're going to see a Nazi America where Hitler was deposed and his cronies took the reins. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than what we have now.

No lyrics, but it's the song Rise by Origa.

Bannon overules Dept of Homeland security judgement
not to apply ban to greencard holders.
Also an apparent quote from Bannon is in that tweet thread is pretty freaking scary. Apparently it came from here
Shocked, I asked him what he meant.
“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.” Bannon was employing Lenin’s strategy for Tea Party populist goals. He included in that group the Republican and Democratic Parties, as well as the traditional conservative press.
I still don't understand how Trump could align himself with someone like Bannon. Bannon wants to destroy the state; Trump wants to rule it as a king. How did Autocrat Trump align himself with Anarchist "Leninist" Bannon?
How deep did Bannon's mouth go into Trump's ass to make him ignore his vileness?!
Okay, reading through that, I finally figured out what that means: Custom Border officials won't let lawyers meet their Captives, which is going against a Federal Court Order. It's bad, but I was thinking it was actually a lot worse then that...

That quote cannot be posted enough. We all need to be aware of the kind of man we're dealing with here. All the chaos, the confusion, the fear that's plagued Trump's first week? All by design. This is what he wants.
Reports that the CBP is failing to comply with the court order.
The hell is this shit?
Bannon's smart. Trump's Trump. I imagine if I got close to him, I could probably manipulate Trump, the man's that much of a fool.

I doubt it, barring serious changes to the way succession works. But I doubt he wants it. He likes being in the position he's currently in - the power behind the throne. The scheming vizier to Trump's buffoonish king.

"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."

I hate the way mental illness is stigmatized and that is a real concern here, but I also think that we should make sure the nuclear codes don't get placed into the hands of someone who may be dangerously unpredictable or delusional. Hopefully this evaluation wouldn't automatically exclude anyone who happened to have a mental illness, but rather would determine whether or not their mental illness would compromise their ability to fulfill the responsibilities of office.
The detainees at DFW Airport are being released!
The fact that that so many people fought for that, and the overjoyed cheers of the celebrating crowd, should give even the most cynical among us some modicum of hope. This is what America should be, not Trump's abominable "vision."
