Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Septimus: Aren't both of those articles about the Huntington Beach plant? Except for a small part on the second one about opening a new reservoir.
One of Trump's nominees is registered to vote in two states.

@Parable: The second article discusses a project to take water from an area of the Mojave Desert and get it to Los Angeles. Not sure why anybody thinks that a desert basin would be a good source for water. The idea to extend the California Aqueduct to Nevada by comparison seems almost to make sense.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman![]()
And Bannon is also registered in two states.

Essay.
I've seen this one before, those guys love to complain how Ruby Ridge and Waco Siege were the government overstepping their boundaries and enacting unconstitutional laws.
That also happened when the Civil Guard and other law enforcement agencies confiscated weapons in the Katrina aftermath.
But this time don't expect them to say a word on it because it is happening to minorities and the urban population.
So, how long until something like the Zoot Riots happen again?

. . . in getting anwsers.
Actual information? Nope, that's another "alternative fact" for ya.
Seriously though, one of the far right's favorite tactics is to exploit the academic notion instilled in all high-school students that they need to visit multiple sources when analyzing one issue.

Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes.
She (Kendzior) tried to raise the alarm. She tried to warn people, and let people know that this was Trump's actual stated intention. Nobody listened.
And not just Trump. Bannon. Bannon's express goal is to cause chaos across the world and bring the global order crashing down. And he is doing a bang-up job so far.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."
Well, him and the "totes left" people who read Breitbart...
EDIT: How to request an audit of Trump's finances for any conflicts of interest

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot
x8 and x6: This makes Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory harsher in hindsight, as the main villain in that game is a American who thinks America is sick and dying and that whatever comes about after throwing the world into turmoil via a war in East Asia would be better.

I'd say Modern Warfare 2 is more relevant, what with a high-ranking government official shamelessly colluding with ultraconservative Russians in a bid to further both of their powers in a war between their respective nations.
No, seriously, American taxpayers are paying for the wall first
.
There is now an official denial of the gag order on government social media
The Trump admin will begin publishing lists of crimes purportedly committed by illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities
. Reminded of Breitbart's black crime beat? If you are, you're being too mean to these economically anxious white trash.
Thread on how the postwar order Trump and the GOP despise now actually is good for the US

OK, so Spicer is apparently now backtracking, claiming that Trump was being impulsive, and was really an offer to provide help requested by local leaders.
