Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Surprise, surprise; Comey is keeping his job.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Well, its not all bad. Forget civil rights And children's initiatives are so last administration. Ladies and Gentlemen, the first lady has a wonderful jewelry line up on the White House website...
Call and Order Now!
Also, on the protest thing, you might be overestimating the public there. Back during the Palmer Raids, there was a tendency to see people getting repressed a getting hat they deserve. Going around town here, even in the city, people just talk about demonstrations as being an annoyance, and I doubt they'd mind suppressing protesters for as small a reason as to keep trafficking flowing. And even now, if people were getting hosed down on the 11 O'clock news, many would rightly be horrified but enough might just go "meh, those are criminals and ne'er-do-wells, shoulda been at work..."
So, what can we do right now to help the water protectors at Standing Rock? Because right now, they're in for what is, at best, a four-year battle. And at worst, a massacre waiting to happen. I wouldn't put it past Trump for a second to just order his goons to kill all of the water protectors.
And Spicer would deny it ever happened.
I wish I was kidding.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."If something like that happens in my state, moving to New York. Got family there.
EDIT: Talking about protesting being cracked down on. Damn this thread is fast.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash.Congress alone gets to determine what is an impeachable offence, the Senate alone gets to determine if something is worthy of conviction. If you end up holding hearing on Trump's entire time in office something small will likely come up for his S Cs nominees, if the House if Dem and the Senate has a Dem supermajority that would be enough to remove his SC nominees.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranActually, what happens if a Governor dies? There's a chain of succession, or is an emergency election held?
That or you need to calm down and take a deep breath. The guy looked pretty old from what I saw on TV.
