Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Trump didn't acknowledge the two officers at all.

Oh, and btw Trump has two picture of the inauguration crowd in the press briefing room.

This guy is such an insecure child.
New Survey coming this weekend! He tries to start a 3rd Iraq War, and he will be out so fast his head will spin.
Also, I've found a new word that best describes Trump's politicis: Caeserism
. Trump fits the Caeserist criteria to a near T.
...Meh. There's nothin anomalous about Trump's inauguration attendance compared to previous attendance rates. Obama's inauguration was a historic event and it's the most recent one in memory so of course people would cite it.
Trump's "paltry" attendance isn't really indicative of anythin'.
GIVE ME YOUR FACE![]()
I don't know what previous inauguration figures were like, but it's noteworthy because it runs utterly counter to the narrative surrounding Trump. (And I also have seen plenty of people who live or work in DC saying that the enthusiasm and turnout for this inauguration was pathetic compared to previous ones.)
Best part is when he took over the POTUS account, and briefly used a picture from Obama's inaguration (which had lots of cheering crowds and waving flags) for his banner image.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."![]()

It must be a power thing. It's the only reason I can think of.
There's no way Torture Rules are being loosened under his Term, though. That'd require Republicans to actively vote for Torture to come back, and it'd require the two people who are responsible for any War Prisoner Torturing (Sec. of Defense and Sec. of Homeland Security) to actively support it (which both are on record saying Torture doesn't work).

Is it bad whenever he mentions torture, I feel like he needs to be waterboarded just to see for himself how effective it is? I feel like going through torture resistance training would be something that top officials need, right?
....I can't tell if being water boarded with urine is something Trump would hate or get off on.

But it makes us feel good. What kind of country are we if we can't butcher our enemies?
Some more from the CIA speech.
"I met him and I said, he is so good. Number one in his class at West Point. I know a lot about West Point, and I'm a person that very strongly believes in academics. In fact, every time I say I had an uncle who was a great professor at M.I.T. for 35 years, who did a fantastic job in so many ways," Trump said. "He was an academic genius, and then they say, there's Donald Trump, an intellectual, trust me, I'm like a smart person."
I can't believe that piece of shit left without actually answering any questions.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite. If you torture someone, they'll say anything to get out of it. A sociopath might think that seems great for the propaganda, but in actuality, it creates way more problems, because if you've forced someone into confessing to something they didn't do and you treat that like a victory...the actual guilty party is still out there somewhere, and you just handed them a great propaganda opportunity.

I'm wondering now, will we hit a point where Trump complains about "fake news" or "dishonest media" so much that if/when the media actually does try to fake something to discredit him it will be taken as Crying Wolf?
