Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I imagine that Duterte is the kind of guy Trump will get along with swimmingly, and I doubt that Trump is the type to be concerned about the Philippines' drug war. He may even approve it, if not be jealous of it. Not to mention that much of the country, including his own supporters, are (supposedly) not in the mood for more liberal interventions.
His administration may think differently, but I don't see them bucking the trend to move into the Philippines. Iran, on the other hand, is a different story.

Is anyone else pondering the fact that one of the first things Trump did as POTUS was to reverse a mortgage interest rate cut?
I mean that, right there, is an Establishing Character Moment for how Trump will act as POTUS. Any deluded pipe dreams that he was a secret liberal or something died that instant.
Steve Mnunchin must be salivating.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI mean, that move, it was so...Trump. Right before going off on vacation, he decides to undo legislation that could really help out a lot of struggling home owners because it might cut into his wealth or the wealth of his cronies. Trump's real slogan should have been "Trump First, Trump Second, Trump Third...America a distant Fourth"

Disgusted, but not surprisedPersonally I took planning to go on vacation literally the day after he was sworn in to be a firm Establishing Character Moment by itself.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Civil War II isn't just a possibility, it's practically a near certainty. Especially now.
Coup d'etat first that succeeds in a few states, then the civil war. Sound familiar?
Ladies, gentleman, and nonbinary folks, the prologue's over, and the true battle starts now.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.Trump re-decorated the inside of the White House already and apparently it's all gold now
http://occupydemocrats.com/2017/01/21/trump-just-redecorated-entire-oval-office-gold-everything/
Gold curtains, gold drapes, gold curtains, golden couches, gold showers and tacky-looking gold furniture
Clearly the man has his priorities in order.
I guess if he can't live in his Trump Tower suite for most of the next four years, he's gonna do everything he can to make the WH into Trump Tower.
Disgusted, but not surprised![]()

Well if the shoe fits, I will, and frankly, it does.

So Trump wants his own Trump Tower away from Trump Tower. (Funny how I was thinking about how my grandmother described Trump Tower as looking like a "gilded French whorehouse" back when I was a kid, but that seems like an insult to both the French and sex workers.)

Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.
I'm pretty sure that when Trump leaves office he'll be taking as much of it with him as possible. Maybe there are rules against that, but since when has Trump ever given a shit about rules and traditions and such? When they don't benefit him, that is.
