Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Expected changes to the House in the 2020 census
And a map, assuming same states won as in 2016
The Russian Victory Day Parades had, like, actual Navy seals (note the lower cases).
The only way that could be topped is with, like, an inspection done by a penguin who is also a colonel.
Except Norway already did that.

x14 We have military parades in Gibraltar, and we aren't fascists. In fact, we voted almost 100% against Brexit. You also see platoons of soldiers with assault rifles occasionally running around the place, and the occasional colonel in the street. Then again, we are pretty much a military base turned into a country.
So I just found out that the Hawaii State Senate has an all-Democratic delegation - all 25 seats are held by Democrats. No other legislature house in the US that I know is one party.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanPersonally, I don't see anything inherently wrong with military parades. Admittedly, Fascists use military parades by necessity, but Hitler Ate Sugar. Military parades predate fascism by quite a bit and there's no particular reason the good guys can't have them, too.
In any event, I think it's a good idea since there's a lot of overlap between military and parade. Soldiers spend a lot of time marching, and the military does have its own marching bands. Plus military uniforms (especially ceremonial ones), vehicles, and equipment look cool.

District Drawing is (for most states) determined by the State's Legislatures and approved of by the Governor of the State every 10 years. So you guys better flip Arizona, North Carolina and Florida Blue or you can guarantee that those states will have a harder time going Blue from 2020-2030...
Oh, that's good then. I always forget which states have that instead of the Legislature process.

District drawing doesn't (directly) have an impact on if a state goes a particular way at the presidential level. Still the shift from the Mid West to the South (Texas, Florida and NC) and the West (Colorado, Arizona, Oregon) does show a trend.
Man we need the Voting Rights Act back, the voter suppression in many of the gaining states is huge.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranSo they "didn't" kill the VRA, they told congress to make a new formula, and since we all know the GOP has a divine right to rule the United States o' 'Murica, and a new formula would harm the GOP's ability to accumulate power, congress didn't make a new formula.
