Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Appropriate thread has been found and reved.[1]
Im near to gradúate in political science here in Venezuela, which make make the prospect of Trump Being president there more depresive
Also, I just find this in that Pages about Trump no living is tower
"I don’t know if it’s actually agoraphobia, but I can’t put my finger on what exactly it is. On top of everything else Trump already is, I just can’t wrap my head around the way he lives his life.
With all the resources in the world, he never seems to do or enjoy anything. Lives in NY - barely leaves his flat. Eats nothing but fast food junk. Has a private plane, but never goes anywhere, much less on vacation. Has the worlds greatest designers down the street, but always looks likes he’s wearing two-sizes-too-big hand-me-downs. Has multiple kids and wives he never does anything with. Doesn’t seem to have any friends. No pets or hobbies. Is it just pure narcissim?"
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"On Obama's pardon, I just realised part of the genius behind them. Obama has pardoned multiple whistleblowers, that's given the whistleblower movement a big moral boost and probably given some good press to the idea that there are times when it's right to leak government secrets to the public.
Why's that genius? Who is about to enter the White House again? Exactly, Trump is on day one going to be dealing with a whistleblower and transparency movement that's just gotten a big moral, public awareness and popularity boost. On top of that anyone who considers leaking stuff on Trump may not be more willing due to knowing that the president after Trump might decide to pardon them.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThis essay
is about two years old and probably Captain Obvious to the posters in this thread, but the comments are the interesting part, and they go all the way to at least election season. They do not speak well of the essay's call to change course by policy rather than reaction/revolt.
- One particular doosie note
- And one stark statement note
- And completely missing the point note
- And probably from a guy who writes for 40K note
Also, one writer asks that we embrace conflict for denial's the real problem.
Equally outdated and simple, yet relevant. Also a useful start for countering "its over, let's come together" triumphalism.

Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our livesSo, remember Andrew Puzder, the Trump labor pick who suddenly realized he might have to work for it?
Meet his fellow pick, Betsy
DeVos.
Behind the smiles and stupidity is a true believer, who has worked hard and spent millions to make our country worse.
Maurice LaMarche and Rob Paulsen do Trump tweets as
Pinky and the Brain.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."If I'm not mistaken, a certain Erik Prince, formerly of Blackwater, is in fact Betsy's brother.
And some news stories suggest that he's jockeying for influence as well.
Fun.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot
What about Blackwater? Because, color me ignorant, but I'm not even sure what Blackwater is. {Insert 'living under a rock' jokes here.} Also:
Absolutely nothing. Which is why they'd have little problem in denying it to children performing what amounts to slave labor.

Blackwater is the poster-boy for ethically-challenged Private Military Contractors (literally).
Here's more info on its founder,
who also happens to be quite close to Mike Pence.
Fun fact from glancing at Wikipedia: One of their board members is John Ashcroft, who was Attorney General under George W. Bush and a key supporter of the Patriot Act.
And I'm not even remotely surprised. Hell, I'd make a substantial bet on them not being employed for good ol' Middle Eastern shenanigans, but rather for additional "security" along the Mexican border.

I don't know, the Sociopathic Soldier trope is renowned and infamous for a reason. There's plenty of reports of regular military personnel engaging in that sort of behavior all the time. Like those US troops caught pissing on a Taliban fighter's corpse in Afghanistan some years ago.

Bachelor of English and never had a job outside of the food service industry. It took me five years after losing my previous job to get my current one, during which I had to move back in with my mom. I'm 30.
