Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

"I only recall the the one voicemail Andrew Breitbart left not too long before he bought the farm (now, for his namesake site, its (ex-)writers and its fans...). Which one was this?"
I'm referring to this.

And I suppose Jill Stein has nothing to say about this?
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotIt is like when we saw the Islamic State pulling cruel executions and tactics that would be called exaggerated or absurd in they were done in fiction.
Meanwhile the Republicans are acting more petty and malicious than any far fetched caricature of evil politicians.
For a party that has been whining and moaning about being treated as unscrupulous and evil assholes, they are hell bent in being one.

Inter arma enim silent leges@ writing representatives, Glorious nation of North Carolina, so our government is pretty red at the moment. In rural communities where everyone knows everyone even minor differences of opinion can bite you in the ass; for example a minor disagreement with a local minister one Sunday once ended up nearly costing me my job because he knew someone on the chamber of commerce who happily spread some nasty rumors afterwards. I'm a Christian, but I'm pretty much blacklisted from a church or two now and probably held up as much as an atheist in their eyes.
Didn't think about writing anonymously, might actually give that a go.
Perhaps nail a list of grievances to their doors?

That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswBuzzfeed is trying to map Trump's interest network

Notably, he saw Nixon display a sense of shame on occasion, something he isn't inclined to believe Trump has.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotFormer Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos has officially filed a defamation lawsuit against Trump,
based on accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct.
Between Trump's impossible promises and stuff like the ACA, it looks like the GOP will have trouble holding the Rust Belt.

So Roger Stone claimed to have been poisoned with polonium
. Rebuttal included in the link, because I'm nice like that.
Y'know, I think it would be worse if he were to actually ingest the stuff and die slowly and miserably, since it would be a perfect cassus belli for Trump...

: Maybe I should've clarified what I meant by "screwing me over in some way".
Basically, I mean if the actions of the Trump administration is directly responsible for any of several hypothetical scenarios that follow a similar patter to the one(s) outlined below:
- Saudi Arabia's economy tanks due to Trump's "strategy" towards the world economy, driving the majority of the country's middle class, of which I am part of, below or close to the poverty line.
- Saudi Arabia is dragged into a war it didn't start, and one which the Saudi Arabian people do not want part of at all (e.g. the USA invades Iran to "liberate" its people and avenge perceived wrongs), with all the inevitable results.
- Saudi Arabia finds itself wracked with more terrorist attacks (lone wolf or otherwise) in a single year than it had experienced over the past decade, such that previously safe cities (you know, ones which pretty much never see more than a minor terrorist attack every other year, if at all) are no longer so safe and one cannot go on the street without fearing that their own life may come to an abrupt end by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. The cause? Fuhrer Trump enacting a foreign policy that ends up being the equivalent of pouring an entire metric ton of high-grade jet fuel on a small bonfire when it comes to the worldwide threat of terrorism.
Basically, if my life ends up becoming an example of "Crapsack World can be Truth in Television", then my eternal hate will be directed at those who allowed it to happen.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Saudi Arabia being dragged into a war it didn't start? Huh. My impression is that the Saudi government is one of these who will keenly start a war (we are kindly supposed to ignore the success chances)

I wonder what Trump deciding not to press charges against Hillary for now has done to Assange's precious feelings.
Yeah I'm not sure if Assange saw this coming

I swear to god if anyone were to say to my face that they thought Hillary was the evil or corrupt one, I don't think I could stop myself before punching them square in the jaw.
