Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, what do you know, with less than a week 'till inauguration a federal abortion ban is already on the table.
By Representative Steve King, no less, who has listed abortion as one of his 'grievances' against black Americans.
I'm trying to be furious, but I think I've just entered "bitter and tired" mode for the next four or so years. This is going to hurt so many people...
I don't think it's even the Electoral College system that's wrong, but rather the "minority vote goes entirely to waste" in deep blue/red states.
Price bought between $1,001 to $15,000 worth of shares last March in Zimmer Biomet, according to House records reviewed by CNN.

Since when did Politicians stop giving a fuck about subtlety?
New Survey coming this weekend! So, what terrible news from the US of A over the past 24 hours that I've spent away should I be aware of?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I said news, you know.
(But yeah, every day I wake up to that doesn't include breaking news that Trump and the GOP have been thrown behind bars always fills me with more grief and rage than ever.)
PS: I swear, if Trump's presidency ends up screwing me over in some way, I will forever hate all of the anti-Trump/GOP people — whether civilians or soldiers — who didn't have the guts to choose do the right thing and take down these madmen through any means necessary, fair or foul.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. For what's going on:
- Some MCs held rallies to support the ACA
(Where were those on election day?)
- Dr. Carson, who's just about qualified to run the Federal Lemonade Stand Administration, did not rule out the President-Elect benefiting from HUD money
.
- Asked whom he trusted more, Merkel, a longtime US ally, or Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump called it a draw -- at least for now.
- Oh, and Mr. President-Elect took time out of his busy schedule to pass some casual remarks about my city.
What a surprise! The modern CEO doesn't want to work! If there's a silver lining to this mess, it's that most of these clowns want to rule, not govern. Governing requires more effort than they've ever given to anything. They can't even offer bread and circuses, because those cost money.
A spokesman for the Russian president pointed out that Russia is not currently considering the possibility of reducing its nuclear arsenal in exchange for a sanctions deal."
Lmao. Russia won't even give Trump a face-saving gesture.

They want to be figureheads who can throw their weight around when they feel like it, and sit on their duffs when they don't feel like doing anything. Which is most of the time.
In other words, a typical mid-level manager.

This Space Intentionally Left Blank. The biggest problem with Trump is that he acts as if the US is one of his businesses...and that is not only worrying because he has managed to bankrupt more than one of them. Or because he is acting like an old-style businessman who still thinks that the way to success is to step on everyone on his way up and always just think about his own gain - he is basically a Ferengi. No, the problem here is that this is about more than trade. In his mind the EU is a danger for the US because it has become a powerful market - he never considers that there can be two winners in business, so he wants the EU gone, overlooking that the EU falling apart and the US undermining the NATO might lead to a war in Europe...which is NOT in the US interest, The US economy is way too interwoven with the European one, it can't afford to loose those markets. The only winner in such a scenario is Putin - note that I say Putin, not Russia itself.
On Martin Luther King Day.
Meanwhile, lawmakers try to legalize running them over.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."@Swanpride: You are on to something there. Trump basically ran on the promise to renegotiate all our international relationships in a way that is more advantageous to the US. He sees nations as analogous to businesses, and he intends to lead America Inc. toward greater profits.
As part of this overall plan, look for him to start eliminating and consolidating government departments...
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.Seriously, the man needs to toughen up. This is just embarassing.
