Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

This press conference is gonna be a real Gong Show. I wonder if he'll blame Rosie for his troubles.
I'm seriously beginning to wonder whether all of this is real, or if he's sacrificing the good, sensible image he could have in order to intentionally be the fucking bogeyman that unites the rest of us.
I mean, we really do need just this sort of Presidency to get the rest of us off our asses and sorting out our differences, and if I were going to peg the sort of president we needed at just this moment, it would be a Brother Charlie president who forced the rest of us to get over ourselves and gang up on him. Seriously, we've gotten way too polarized to count as one nation anymore, borders be fucking damned.
Brother Charlie is a common story. Two brothers live together. They are always fighting, on the verge of never speaking to one another again. So their older brother Charlie comes to visit. He sees how badly things are going. He fakes an accident, stays for an extended time, and makes his brothers take care of him the whole time. He's intentionally demanding, and pushy, and forces the other brothers to get along by being such a fucking thorn in their side that they put aside their differences and make him leave. By the end, they really don't remember why they were fighting in the first place. Until we can have a truly good leader, we need to go to the negotiating table and find common ground again.
I'm sure I'm wrong. Trump probably really is a lunatic. He's the natural conclusion of the Neo-con slide the Reps have been going through since the Clinton days lead to Bush. But I can hope he's faking it, because if he is then he'll know where to draw the line before actually killing the country.

Yes-no. You need to be born with most of the building blocks, but early and late childhood experiences are truly what erect the whole personality disorder you wind up with. In short: somebody get Barron out of that family, please: there's not much time, but the window is still open to intervene and help the lad before he picks up all the bad habits they have to offer.
Dysfunctional family is dysfunctional. This is what we as a society get for treating such things as entertainment rather than warning signs that people need help. Roll up, roll up! Watch the Osborne and Trump families get hilariously freaky! Not dangerous at all!

Reuters coverage of Trump's press conference
What's that? A rich dude, who inherited his wealth from his rich daddy and rich granddaddy naming his kid after a noble title?
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youYes that damned Lugenpresse. Besmirching mein Fuhrer's beloved name.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youObama's first press conference was about job stimulus packages and not stepping on the out-going President's toes during the transition.
Trump's first press conference is bitching about the unfair media and trying to convince people that he's not a walking conflict of interest, while trying to defend his interests.
President Obama gave an interview to Trevor Noah some time ago. The Youtube comments said it best. "America went from this man to Trump?" And every single press conference will remind us of the difference.
Look with century eyes... With our backs to the arch And the wreck of our kind We will stare straight ahead For the rest of our lives

Good God, this is insane.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
