Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Because the inbred, moronic, xenophobic intellectually and culturally backwards parasites were allowed any sort of influence in the election process, or indeed, over anything other than what slop they shovel down their fat greasy throats.
And now we're all about to pay the price for having allowed them any sort of place in a civilized society.

Someone did tell me life was going to be this way.edited 9th Jan '17 12:22:48 PM by TheHandle
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I think the thought has crossed most of our minds at least once the last two months. The horrifying counterpart thought that I doubt is endemic to me is the little voice wondering if that might be better than the increasing likelihood of a nuclear exchange, or a trade war escalating into a conventional shooting war that engulfs a good chunk of the world.
And why would he give up all that power over the Texas political process as the President of the Senate.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."I feel sorry for him only in the sense that the Republicans have made an art out of fooling people into voting for them, but at some point you need to be an adult and take responsibility for your own vote.
If he had Googled 'Obamacare' even once without the words 'death panels' or 'secret Muslim' in the search bar, the first result tells you that Obamacare and the ACA are the same thing. Maybe losing their health care will teach them a lesson about educated voting.
The idea that we can't take schadenfreude as a little bit of cold comfort in the days ahead - that a bitter chuckle at people getting exactly what they voted for is somehow a step too far when we and our close friends stand poised to lose human rights thanks to those very votes - is ridiculous.

It's been fun.![]()
Actually, thanks to google personalized search, you'll find stuff that reinforces already held beliefs when you search stuff on google, so that guy is SOL unless he somehow gets linked to a source he believes that says Obamacare is the same as the ACA.
@Pushover Media Critic: Personally, I don't see us heading into a civil war. Instead, I see it being a purge (e.g. Kristallnacht and the Night of the Long Knives) where critics of Trump (both within and without the Republican Party) are declared "terrorists" and either arrested and sent to camps or killed on sight.
Yeah, if you didn't already know, I'm pretty much stuck in a prolonged Freak Out.

I'm from Texas, and Your "Liberal Bubble" Argument is Ridiculous
: A Texan does a huge twit-chain of how "the coastal elites live in a bubble" is bullshit.
