Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Which is why I hope "THANKS, TRUMP!" catches on like "THANKS, OBAMA!" did.
Right now I'm on a trip the Middle East. "The Jews" do get blamed for every bad thing that happens in the Middle East. Every major leader in the world is a Zionist, and every Arab leader a sellout. As the joke goes, Israel must be the most budget-efficient touristic destination in the world.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Arab-Jewish conflicts go back millenia though.
I mean, heck, in the Jewish Torah and the Christian Old Testament's most important book, the Hebrews arrive and conquer or enslave the native Canaanites and claim the land as divine right. Before that, they were nomadic shepherds who didn't claim land as their own, weren't they?
So these attitudes didn't just spawn yesterday. They've literally been around for as long as there have been Arabs and Jews.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for you![]()
We're so powerful and so much in control of the politics and the media that the candidate we backed and wanted to win the US election lost...
but it was ugh...part of the plan...
Inter arma enim silent legesThis book continues to be politically relevant.
“Even if they like what he’s doing?”
“Particularly because of that."

As much disdain as I may have for Kelly under normal circumstances, normal circumstances these ain't. She's got no love for Trump, and right now, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. I predict a lot of Teeth-Clenched Teamwork in however many years it takes us to get through this. Assuming we ever do.
I'll say this for her, when some Trumpling asshole was citing the Japanese-American internment camps as "precedent" for a Muslim registry, she seemed dumbfounded and immediately called him out for supporting such a monstrous act. Again, I'm not saying she's a good person - but she may have some principles, at least compared to most Republican pundits.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."So apparently
, the barrage of outraged phone calls from constituents was a primary deciding factor in getting the House's neutering of ethics shelved. It's not a permanent victory, but it is a lesson: our voices matter. This was in many ways the Resistance's first victory of 2017. We need to remain vigilant and keep them under a spotlight, and maybe more will follow.
Also, make no mistake, they will try to further obfuscate their actions and create smokescreens to avoid coming under public pressure of this nature. Hell, they've already started.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."@Megyn Kelly - Being a republican (or, more accurately, not a liberal, and that too assuming she is espousing personal beliefs rather than the company line) does not suddenly mean she's bad people. She did her job as a journalist, which is more than can be said for most people on television news right now, right or left.
Her sin, as far as can be observed from her time at Fox, is her penchant for sensationalism. And we do not know if that was simply the culture of FNC or if it is just her. But we will know definitively one way or another once she starts at NBC.

I've heard this said before because these people think the Jews are in control of both parties. Trump's children are all married to Jews, his son in law and closest advisor is Jewish, and his Cabinet is even more kosher than Obama's not to mention that he's more pro-Israel than Obama.
I think Megyn Kelly was the anchor that got famous for insisting that Santa was white as a fact. Which uh... says some not so great things about her, but really she came out of this whole Trump mess looking like the better person. And considering how Fox sort of threw her under the bus I'm kind of not surprised she's decided to go for another network.
The alt right seemed to ignore the whole thing about his son in law being Jewish, despite much of their conspiracies. I always found that weird. I'm not aware of who else his other children have married, or even if they're married. Because that's not a thing I had to care about, before.
Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but several NAACP members were having a sit-in at Jeff Sessions' office in Alabama. They said they would stay there until they were arrested or Sessions withdrew himself from consideration for Attorney General. They were just arrested about seven hours in.
Edit: it's talked about in another OTC. Well, it's relevant here, anyway.
On a lighter note, I downloaded the extension that changes pictures of Trump into pictures of kittens (because it's going to be a long four years, regardless), and I just realized that it also changes any arrow in a post that mentions Trump into a tiny little picture of a kitten. I love it.
