Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

As it is, Marinelli hasn’t gone to great lengths to hide his affiliations with Russia, and has defended his actions by noting that “[e]verybody’s using everybody.” In a recent interview with Business Insider, Marinelli added that Yes California – which began formal secession processes this week – is willing to work with any and all potential partners: “That’s why we don’t [have] a problem with me being in Russia, for example, or signing an agreement with a group in Russia.” (Other California secession groups, however, have disowned Marinelli for his relationship with Russia.) Indeed, Yes California recently, and curiously, Tweeted about the support from foreign powers the United States received during its own push for independence.
Again, there’s negligible likelihood Marinelli’s drive to wrest California from the United States will succeed, and there’s no reason to believe the Kremlin is playing any direct role in steering Yes California’s efforts. But given the Kremlin’s financing of events that bring together those who’d fracture the United States – to say nothing of Marinelli’s personal history – the cheery sheen on Yes California’s drive for independence is that much murkier, and that much stranger, than organizers would otherwise let on.
Finally the Russian Bear and Californian Grizzly Bear shall unite to combat the American Menace.

Wasn't that even stated that there are, in fact, ties between Trump advisors and Russian oligarchs and FBI sits on proof, but - lolcomey - decided to not examine this because Shillary?
Like, I think there even was an official statement like two-three days after the election. (I might be mistaken, of course)

Americans loving Russia. Not just any Americans; conservatives! Did the world turn upside down? Has The New Russia's disappointing quest to get Senpai to finally notice them and respect them as equals by becoming the embodiment of The '80s Corrupt Corporate Executive oligarchy finally suceed?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.here's the chief of the NSA saying on video that the DNC hacks were done by a state actor
.
I'm not going to dig out all the supporting evidence right now around Russia being behind the email hacking (I recommend searching Ars Technica for details) but that much is as certain as is possible without us having access to the classified stuff. We know Trump has probable conflicts of interest in Russia, that members of his election team had shady Russian connections and that in October there was evidence Russian hackers were poking around the voting systems in Florida. And we have prior cases where the Kremlin has pulled this kind of stunt in other countries.
We don't have definitive evidence that Russian tampering mattered in the final result or that Donald himself is complicit or being directly influenced but they sure had an interest in Trump succeeding, or at least disrupting things enough that Clinton would have had a mess on her hands.
Could you imagine what would've happened if Obama in 2008 was even REMOTELY connected to Russian interests even if was a mere ex-girlfriend who happened to live in Russia?
The right would've blew a gasket. But when it's one of their guys, hey fuck it, let us be Russian puppets, doesn't matter he's one of US.
New Survey coming this weekend! Also Trump has spent more time talking with Putin than any other world leader since the election
.
This is going to be fun.

"Yup. That tasted purple."Trump on Twitter "Fidel Castro is dead!"
hahahaha
Our next President ya'll
New Survey coming this weekend!Honestly, the fact that Trump Tower's penthouse is decorated in a Louis XIV, Versailles style is the perfect metaphor for Trump's life, campaign, presidency, and hopefully, his downfall — I mean, Versailles played up the luxury, but you only had to turn a corner to find a duke shitting in a broom closet.
Romney should count his blessings — at least Trump isn't making him wake up at six every morning to wipe the President-elect's ass. That apology seems pretty tame in comparison.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."
That's only because the Manservant position is already taken by Chris "Reek" Cristie.

When asked what the (non-white) poor should eat, Trump responded "Let them eat KFC".
(sshh, yes, I know Marie Antoinette didn't actually say "Let them eat cake".)

Disgusted, but not surprisedOMG you're right. Versailles functioned a lot like Trump Hotel appears to be functioning now: powerful folks paying exorbitant amounts for accommodation there in the hopes of buying a moment of the sovereign's ear.
My God.
Do you think Trump will reverse the Dinner Table Bargain and bring the Presidency to New York?
Wouldn't that be hilarious?
I mean, part of the reason why the Potomac got DC was because Washington owned a lot of land there...
