Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yes, that was also a really big problem, but everything I've heard indicates that Hillary is unpopular in general thanks to all the scandals and people perceiving her as "artificial". Combined with Trump it created a climate of voter apathy and a low turnout in general.

It's been long established that most people consider being called a racist to be worse than the possibility of actual racism that might have happened and often does.
Like I've been saying, apathy and ignorance often achieve the same results as malice. Most of the rural voters/people in dead towns across flyover country just said "nobody's perfect" and kept making excuses for him when confronted with his inappropriate behavior.

Trump openly admitted to committing sexual assault, turned around and blamed the victims, practically bragged about it, and nearly half the electorate (including a ton of women and "moral" Republicans and Evangelicals) voted for him anyway. And a few hundred thousand people in swing states couldn't be arsed to stop said rapist, because of "principals"/apathy/laziness (though voter suppression was probably in play, we'll need to see the research on that).
Anyone who didn't vote for Clinton is going to be indirectly responsible for a lot blood, tears and agony.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I only know that I am convinced that Trump is at the very least a narcissist, if not a sociopath, and if I had been allowed to vote, I would have picked any random guy from the street over him as long as he was able to actually talk about the issues at hand instead of attacking other people on a personal level.

Wasn't it established that Sanders in general polled better than Clinton in the hypothetical popular vote?
I'm just curious when was the vote on DMC's candidate conducted, is all, and what kind of form it took.
Well, with the talk about the election being rigged, but in Trump's favor, everything seems possible.
I am of cautious optimism, if only because I don't have much else left on the debate.

Wilbur Ross
is expected to be Trump's pick for Commerce Secretary.
Trump's pick for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos
, has never attended public school, and has ties to the Acton Institute, which advocates for literal child labor. God help us all.
@TacticalFox88
Haven't you even considered why so many voters abandoned the Democrats in the first place?

One does not shake the box containing the sticky notes of doom!At end of the day, Trump won. So if you did not vote for Clinton, and you object to anything his administration does over the next four years, yes, it is on you. As voters, it's up to us to become informed about politics, economics, and other things enough to understand what it is that we're voting for (and against). It's like you expect the parties and the media to drip-feed you candidates and sell you on them, like brands of toothpaste or pizza restaurants.
Heck, if you voted third party as a "protest", without actually examining their platforms or candidates, you're exactly as bloody-mindedly sheeple-like as you accuse the major party voters of being.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Unfortunately, it looks like the democratic party is going to have to do that going forward.
In a post-facts world, reasonable policies and becoming informed about the candidates don't mean anything. Personal feelings and the ability to SOUND convincing trump all. (No Pun Intended)
@Fighteer Clinton planned to do a lot of things I don't like, too. I wouldn't want to have that on my conscience either.
As a matter of fact, I did examine their platforms.

The deplorables thing lasted as long as it did because Trump's Know-Nothing supporters gleefully adopted it as their moniker.
