Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

As a registered Californian, I voted for HRC. I actually don't feel bad about that — I found the Democratic platform something I could support for the next four years, and I had to give props to HRC for having the guts to weather decades of witch hunts.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI easily voted for HRC. Not just because I'm a Democrat, but because there was only two real choices. A bigot or a competent person. HRC was the competent one. The choice was beyond easy. Wasn't even a case of "lesser of two evils" either. There's one evil and one good in this circumstance. I also didn't buy into all that scandal bull either. She did nothing worth worrying about in the first place. It's all media overexaggeration.
Shadow?I think to many people thought that where is smoke there is also fire...I felt that the Clinton family has been under investigation for years now, and they never found anything of substance. They are either even more clever than Xanathos, or this was just engineered by the Republicans to take out a competitor. I lean towards the latter scenario.
Neither am I.
The USA should have something like a Tribune of the Please, but for representing the other countries, especially the developing ones.
It would be nice if they could, say, filibuster an Iraq War thing, for example, but I would be content with them having a voice.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.@Swanpride
Definitely the latter. The GOP has held a grudge against the Clintons for a while. Hillary being part of the Watergate investigation team was the start. Shit really hit the fan when Bill Clinton made H.W. Bush a one term POTUS. The GOP never got over that.

Disgusted, but not surprisedMan, they're petty.
... Any news since about 12 hours ago when I went to sleep?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.- A sub-garbage tier suggestion on how Democrats can win in 2018/2020.
- Nope, automation cannot be undone.
- Some guy rapping
.
- Jill Stein is trying to fund a recount. Yes, really, that fuckwit.
A second term is impossible, The Cursed Year is almost over...right??? -cries-
Trump calling for unity feels like when your SO gaslights you. "No baby, your the one who's been trying to pull us apart"
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Every time I wake up I still can't believe it.
Yet...I can't even IMAGINE how Hillary herself feels. She spent 30 years of her goddamn life being a public servant. Making mistakes along the way, yes, but still moving forward, always (like Pop from Luke Cage), despite the GOP trying to tear her down every step of the way. She graduated with honors from Yale, a very politically active First Lady of Arkansas, FLOTUS, a Senator, Secretary of State under the first AA President, and offered real competence and experience the office hadn't seen in a generation or two. She's easily the most successful female politician in US history and it's literally not even close or disputable.
Yet...even with all of that....America instead chose the most , racist, xenophobic, and downright stupid unqualified white man instead.
So what does that tell little girls all over this country? That no matter how well you do there's always going to be some man who'll snatch all your dreams away in an instance?
UGH.
New Survey coming this weekend!I see news headlines that Clinton's lead in the popular vote has grown to 2 million. Confirmation, please?
Also, any news on the claims of suspicious voting results in several of the states? Some of them involved suspicious numbers, of the "he won by the exact same percentage in all of these states, despite it being statistically implausible/improbable/impossible, especially considering the disparity in their population numbers" kind.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Outside of a few Republicans with pet issues like Mc Cain and torture, I've never had much faith in the GOP having a spine in this situation. This is the same party that helped propagate a media empire built on the idea that facts are subjective, and that routinely fuck over the very people that help elect them (conservative working class voters) and THE ENTIRE PLANET in the name of greed.
It's gonna be a rough 4-8 years.
The sad thing is, to a good chunk of voters in America, all of HRC's accomplishments which you listed are actually negative traits. Anti-intellectualism is quite prevalent in America.
It's nearly impossible to fully diagnose exactly what definitely sealed her defeat this time, since there are so many possible choices. A bunch of factors — some (but not all) completely beyond her control and not remotely her fault — contributed to her loss.

Disgusted, but not surprisedAnd a lot of people just don't care in general. This election has made it very obvious that people are more moved by the candidate's charisma or how CONVINCING his rhetoric sounds as opposed to it being grounded in anything factual. A small group of people is gonna try and have an informed opinion and actually look into policies, but most aren't gonna bother.
Even a lot of liberals didn't seem to realize that they were effectively buying into a right-wing smear campaign.

I don't think that's quite the explanation. I think the Golden Mean Fallacy and False equivalency is by FAR the biggest culprit here outside of the obvious racial implications.
This whole edgy "Both sides are the same" "Oh, my god they're BOTH pieces of shit" "I have to vote my conscience."
It doesn't matter if you put literal Jesus and Satan on either side, but people will STILL find some way to justify this "both sides" nonsense and this was a problem LOOOOOOONG before the media found out that False Equivalency was a profitable business opportunity.
Why? Because they think that if they don't pick a side they seem "neutral" and above it all, and makes them feel intellectually superior, even though it's the exact opposite.
Only way I feel you could challenge this mindset is to start early in life and constantly hammer home to a child as he or she grows up that some sides are right and some sides are wrong along with valid critical thinking skills and evaluating credible sources of information.

New Survey coming this weekend!
I still cannot believe the awful shit that Trump said during his campaign wasn't a dealbreaker for millions of people. The media raised more of a fuss over HRC's one "Basket of deplorables" gaffe.
The "both-siderism" so prevalent in the MSM this cycle has made me swear it off forever.

Disgusted, but not surprised

I voted for hillary, despite my intense dislike of her. My whopping 1/5th of a personhood did jack shit to change the course of things from my already deep blue state because the electoral college is king.
