Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

So Jill Stein's recount campaign
probably has hit its mark already. I wonder if she'll keep going for the other two states she wanted to look at, too.

Still more optimistic than mine cause your stance allows for number of jobs remaining steady and maybe increasing. People suffer for maybe 4 years? And then, they get new jobs.
My pov insist otherwise. Number of jobs goes down by like 20% this year. Another 20% next year. They won't increase unless... chaos and infrastructure gets destroyed and technology is declared evul.
Plants are aliens, and fungi are nanomachines. The following institutional statement is provided by Amy Smith, the university’s senior vice president and chief marketing and communications officer:
“There has been deep concern expressed by our Aggie community about an individual planning to speak at our campus. To be clear, Texas A&M University – including faculty, staff, students and/or student groups - did not invite this speaker to our campus nor do we endorse his rhetoric in any way. In fact, our leadership finds his views as expressed to date in direct conflict with our core values.
”Private citizens are permitted to reserve space available to the public as we are a public university as is the case here. Public groups must cover all rental expenses so that state resources are not burdened. This rental is classified as a “Class 5: non-Texas A&M University-related” use of public space in the school’s events guidelines typically reserved for community events, wedding receptions and local high school events.”

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."(The Hill) Trump's Economic Adviser, Stephen Moore, a die-hard Supply Side Economist and the Founder of "The Club for Growth"
in a private meeting with Congressional Republicans pretty much told Congressional Republicans that the party is no longer the party of Reagan, it is the party of Trump. It is no longer a conservative party, but an economic populist party.
“If Trump says build a wall then he should build a wall. If Trump says renegotiate TPP [the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal], he should renegotiate TPP.”
“Elections have consequences,” Moore added, “and I do think Donald Trump has a mandate.”
I think we're going to see sabotage of Paul Ryan in the near future...
Oh for...and people call the Democratic Party spineless?!
I mean, the whole point of an advisor is to fucking ADVISE! If you don't think something the boss wants to do is a good idea, grow a pair and make your damn case! Don't be a Yes Man!

Disgusted, but not surprisedI'm intrigued by all these Clinton votes that keep being counted. Are they in states that matter (in elections, that is) or in solid blue states?
Direct all enquiries to Jamie B Good@M84:
Moore pretty much said his journey with Trump into the Rust Belt and Appalachia and the like pretty much turned his thoughts on some issues even if he doesn't 100% agree with his new boss.
Now of course how much of this is smokescreening is to be seen, but it sounds like the opening shot to a hostile takeover of a company, to me.
And Bannon/Trump will undermine Ryan if he's viewed as hostile to Trump's grifting and Bannon's Whiter, More Racist New Deal scheme.
I hope the "economic populist" voters are happy paying extra taxes for the wall, the infrastructure plan that is really a tax cut scheme for contractors, and the increased prices that will result when Trump starts a trade war with Mexico in an inevitably futile attempt to force them to pay for the wall. The fucking useless wall. Oh, and the even higher prices that will be the result of a trade war with China.
Frankly, I am wary of anyone who self-identifies as a populist, regardless of whether they are left or right wing.

Disgusted, but not surprisedClinton votes —- please please - no must not - please - no it's hopeless - dammit, why didn't you convince Bernie to be your VP?!
Wall —- (must not laugh) - *sporfle*
I think I should be thankful that the idea of POTUS Donald Trump makes me want to laugh (maniacally) on too many occasions. Laughter is the best medicine, etc.
Plants are aliens, and fungi are nanomachines.I just wanted to ask the same...As far as I remember last time an election was challenged, Gor would have actually won if they had done a proper recount, but the Supreme Court made, when I remember correctly, a very questionable decision to put an end on it. I wouldn't be surprised that even if it turns out that there was manipulation in the swing states, the courts will find some excuse to reject the notion of overturning the result or repeating the election. And I really don't want to know what will happen then.
BTW, the election system in the US might be the worst in the Western democracies. It really needs an overhaul.

One name: Elizabeth Bathory knockoff Peter Thiel.
And why the hell would you fabricate evidence when pretty much anyone not working for the GOP or FBI reckons that the Russians have already been pulling strings this election cycle.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot
Pretty much this. A lot of people just didn't like both candidates. I will admit Hillary is the lesser of two evils but I imagine that my singular vote would of meant jack in all honestly.
That's another issue really. The feeling that your single vote in all honestly means jack shit.
