Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Normally, you want the leader of your country to be as smart and capable as they can possibly be. I don't know if I've ever seen a case where the best outcome is that the leader is an incompetent moron. Can we get a listing in Guinness for that?
Having the country get comfortable with Trump would just mean we'll be back to stringing up the coloreds and lighting crosses on fire, but instead of just beating a black man's skull in and stuffing his scrotum down his throat, the crazies will be doing it to Muslims, as well.
EDIT: Damn page topper. This post makes sense in context, I swear.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Speaking of clogs, Guiness, and given all the health issues President Elect DonT has in a prior post
, the black comedy part of me wonders if the only President he'll end up being better than is William Henry Harrison
Essentially the long a Republican has been in office, the more likely they're pull away from the incoming President, because This Isn't Their First Rodeo (and know the headwinds behind them could dissipate.)
Meanwhile Democrats in more rural / red states who find themselves haphazardly positioned are more likely to swing with Trump, likely on anything that might bring bacon back home.
As to Trump doing better with Latinos, I can think of one key demo, again, with that, that would of bolted from Trump over Hillary: Cubans in Florida. Obama tried to thaw on Cuba, and the older (and more likely to vote) Cuban-American voters went "Fuck you".
Elsewhere I'm not sure, but the Florida one is obvious, and was sadly a poor political move on Obama's part, plus any voter suppression in Florida, that likely burned Hillary there.
x5 — In one of John Oliver's segments, he commented, "Every time someone says his name, he has a massive orgasm."
So let's just not do it. Personally, I'd refer to him as "The Great Pumpkinhead," but that would be doing a disservice to Charles M. Schulz and Linus Van Pelt.
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.I've always been fond of the Church Lady's "Tangerine Tornado".

My thinking was mostly focused on the irony factor of the Tangerine Tornado and his narcissistic need to be the best being fulfilled by gaining a world record entry for surpassing the President who spent the least time in office. Especially given the general feeling he never really wanted the job in the first place.

Well, some of us need to call him by a nickname that we find funny, because it diminishes the impact. Like the old saying goes: "Sometimes you have to laugh just to keep from crying."
It's a psychological defense mechanism to help keep us sane — like me thinking of my abusive father as a chimpanzee (because every time he gets mad, he screams and throws shit.)
This Space Intentionally Left Blank."Donald" is probably sufficiently belettling. It worked for Clinton in the debates. Trump is his brand name and it's his brand that gives him power.
I won't call him "President". He may have won the election but he'll never have my respect, nor will he lead me.

Hopefully Trumps own incompetence will save the nation.
