Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If Clinton had been the one elected, this whole hiring process would be a lot smoother. Even with the impending impeachment attempts from the House.
The only controversy I would see happening would be whether or not Huma Abedin would be in a high position. And that probably would blow over quickly.
Heck, even if by some miracle the EC made her POTUS (not gonna happen I know) and she only had a week or two to restaff the WH and her Cabinet, she'd probably find a way to manage.

Disgusted, but not surprisedDonald Trump plans 'victory tour'.
Humility, thy name is Donald.
Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.Skewed Priorities, thy name is Trump. He should be focusing on staffing the WH, filling the Cabinet, and getting ready to do the damn job.

Disgusted, but not surprisedAttempts are being made to launch an #AuditTheVote campaign,
demanding that the election results be analyzed for any sign of Russian tampering.
Probably a good thing to check for, in any case.
Oh and related to what I was saying a few pages ago; I was at a David Suzuki talk today and he pointed out that one major difference between Canada and the US is that here in Canada much more of us of us know that evolution is real. So hey, at least we've got that going for us!

"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"It's one of those days...
sigh
I swear it flip flops every day where I go for being cautiously optimistic despite my cynicism of the Dems finally getting their shit together to other days at the stunning realization that a guy who was a reality tv star and open racist and fascist is going to be in control of the most powerful military in the history of mankind.
This is gonna be a long four years...
New Survey coming this weekend! My hope is that the strong culture of relative political stability in the US will hold and prevent Trump from turning the US into an illiberal democracy. The floodgates have been opened, but you guys still have a chance to come back in a way that I don't think other countries have because of how long you've lasted up until this point.
Then, once Trump leaves, depending on how well or how badly he does in office, it will send a powerful statement about the strongman regimes developing worldwide. If he gets outed and the US begins undoing the damage done, it weakens and demoralizes the populism plaguing the west by default. I don't expect them to be magically undone shortly after Trump's run, but I hope it would expedite the process.
I don't know about France but I sincerely hope that it doesn't fall, and that as many countries as possible continue to dodge Trumpism. No regime in human history can last indefinitely, but I hope this particular wave dies out sooner rather than later and that it isn't replaced by something even worse.

How do people feel about starting an American protest thread? This thread is more about politics and policies in general, and moves so fast I think a subtopic like that would just get buried.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.
