Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Seriously, if given the chance, I would appoint almost any one of the people in this thread over Trump in a second.
Not because we wouldn't be horrendously incompetent, because we would, no question. But so is Trump. And most of the people who frequent these threads have the notable advantage over Trump of not being really, really racist and ignorant.
Given the choice between a incompetent, disgustingly racist, thin-skinned ignoramus, and someone who's just plain incompetent, I choose the lesser of two incompetences.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."You should vote for me. I'm really good at Democracy 3! I got more than 80% popularity in America...before I was assassinated by liberals who were the one demographic that didn't like me.

"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -BurIt illustrates my point that so far, there has literally not been a single person responding to my post that I would not prefer to Trump - age, citizenship, or nation of birth be damned.
Even me. I don't have a particularly high opinion of myself, I'm way below the minimum age requirement, and I'd be a horrendously ignorant and incompetent President - but at least you wouldn't see me packing my damn cabinet with neo-Nazis.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."Were I eligible (I'd need to be a natural born US citizen, which, as you may notice from my avatar, I'm not) my first act would be appoint someone more qualified as my VP (Hillary, Biden, Kaine... there's a long list) and my second one would be to resign.
1 2 We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be. -KVI'm not trying to come across as bragging, but my layman's knowledge of economics and foreign affairs alone would make me about ten times more qualified than Trump, never mind that I've got no relevant experience. But yeah, the first thing to do would be to get qualified people to lead me through all the stuff I don't know. Preferably before I win the election.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Were I eligible and managed to win the presidency, first thing I'm going to do is find a way to make Obama and/or Bill Clinton my (un)official advisors so they can walk me through the job. I think they'd know better than anyone else I could name who to pick as other qualified advisors, cabinet members, etc.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. So the whole reality of a Trump presidency kind of hit me again this week, today specifically and I was in New York City wondering why traffic was unusually bad. then I saw some cops with military body armor and assault rifles and I put two and two together.
Donald is once again demonstrating and why everybody in New York thinks he's an asshole.
Wall Street is going to be pissed with him if fifth Avenue keeps getting shut down.

So apparently, Trump is the most disliked president elect in recent history.
Public opinion of him has improved a little since the initial election results, but he's still only at 42% approval and 55% disapproval.
The second most unpopular president-elect since Bill Clinton was Dubya, who had a 59% approval rating and 36% disapproval.

Or alternatively, even the more sheltered people (like me) aren't so blindly egotistical and stupid that we'd treat the consolidation of the Executive branch like a fucking reality tv show.
"I can't wait to see who our finalists are!"
Are you kidding me?????
