Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I don't know, but Bat you really ought to see a shrink or something. This isn't the first time they've posted in this thread about taking pleasure in the deaths of people they don't like, even if it's in the form of glee over gunning down fake US soldiers in video games.

And it's not like we can't put concentrated effort in the private sector to try to mitigate some of the damage. It's a kind of pseudo-vigilantism, but short of the Trump government being so petty that they abuse their power to stymie the private sector growth of renewable energy technologies it's not impossible, even if we have to work hard and possibly make some sacrifices for it.

The thing is some climate change scientists have said the window of time to reverse it is drawing to a close and if we don't take action right this moment it could be too late forever. I can understand why some people would panic at the knowledge even if I don't agree with how they plan to resolve it.

My physical health is fine, but I think my mental health has been declining in recent years. I constantly switch weapons in online video games to either match countries in continents that I like from best to worst or from the highest to lowest amount of weapons in a continent currently, rebuying games and selling them after I'm done switching weapons in them. I do everything on a schedule, always doing something at a specific time. I have a short temper and am very passionate about what the stuff I like to the point that I get furious when someone is negative/talks trash about them and/or it fails due to people not liking it as much as me.

I wonder if anyone can fix this fractured nation.
Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.@Mods: Can we please specifically put Bat on notice here? Other people here, yeah, ok the thread is in post-election freakout mode, but for him this has been a pattern. Rarely if ever does he have anything constructive to say.
Edit: And if, as he says, he has anger control issues, this thread is the wrong place for him.

The only Republican who I've come to respect more after this election (well, besides Beck I guess) is probably Mitt Romney. He consistently refused to back Trump during the election, and called this whole mess right from the start.
EDIT: How do you embed videos?

"It is very easy to be kind; the difficulty lies in being just."Here's something I've been pondering: do you guys think that, historically, environmental issues have gotten sufficient attention in the american political discourse, especially in the last few years?
Because it seems like things are going to be extremely bad but people were (understandably) a lot more focused on the xenophobia and populism plaguing the country, but it seems like the disastrous effects the Trump presidency would have had on the environment were not really talked about that much given how important it was to prevent them.
I mean, I get that climate change is a long term thing and people are more worried about tangible problems in their everyday lives, but it seems like we might be paying the price for that now.
There's also Colin Powell who honestly fits more in the Democratic party these days given his beliefs.

They're still against nuclear power. Nuclear has zero carbon emissions; environmentalists should be supporting it. But no, anything "nuclear" is evil...

This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Mitt Romney is in the cushy position of no longer having to give a fuck how his opinion of Trump affects his career, as well as being a Mormon, a people who have oft been mentioned to put a great deal of stock in people who act and behave with dignity and respect. He's kind of an outlier in some respects. I'd never thought I'd be looking back on that guy with something approaching nostalgia, but you know, that guy actually went into the whole affair with a fucking plan.
@Bat and others; America has not doomed the world. The rest of the world does, in fact, have some influence on what's going on with climate change. Plus, with economic factors rendering things like coal obsolete, well, we're going to have to change whether others like it or not. We're trending towards greener energies largely because that's not just where liberal values lie, but because that's where the money is.

Also more than a few members of my family would know a thing or two about political purges and why they're terrible, and so are the people advocating for them.
