Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I don't know if this is too early to even have this discussion, but what of the Republican Party? Specifically, the not-extreme members who must be internally horrified at what their party has become but can't come out against Trump and what he represents without being cast out as a traitor? Do they have any reason to believe they can ever see a sane GOP again (are there enough of them to make it even possible), or is the name now tarnished beyond redemption and they will have to choose between their political careers or their conscious?
The damned queen and the relentless knight.@Bonsai; It would help if you would, say, link to some proof that's happening rather than some complaints from Deviantart of all places.
And also acknowledge that most protests don't break out in violence and are held peacefully.
There's hope if they make a plan to wrest back control. Though most of them seem to have defected to the Democrats. But like... only time will really tell.

I don't support violence against Trump supporters, but yes some proof of this would be nice.

I'm trying to recall when the Trump protesters "beat up Trump supporters" or "burned other people's properties".
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I've been hearing primarily of hate crimes being committed against women and minorities by jubilant Trumplings. All of it absolutely vile stuff.
Hey, remember when we all thought "grab them by the p***y" was going to be Trump's downfall? Well, now it's a victorious rallying cry among his supporters.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."@Drag: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-protests-idUSKBN1343CO
Protestors have gotten quite unruly and broken laws in several places.
There was some highway blocking and setting barrels on fire. That's all I have heard about.
It seems more like to me that the Trump supporters are the ones starting the violence....

Thankfully some people from the democratic party decided to raise money to rebuild it. I saw the fundraiser pop up on twitter. It reached it's goal in a few hours.

My parents are trying to help me find some silver linings but it's not very convincing.
Sure, he might drain the swamp and that wouldn't be so bad, maybe just for people like me personally...but he'll be draining everything else too.

@ the health thing: can Trump really fob that much off on someone else? Like, there's going to be a ton of stuff for him to sign (especially if they really do try to cancel all of the previous executive orders. Each one requires a separate executive order to cancel it out), and he'll have to make all the public appearances and he'll have to make all the statements and all that.
The other thing is that I doubt his cabinet would actually let him do that too much. Because while Trump might be a terrible leader, I get the impression that he's really annoying if you do something he doesn't like. Like, constant snippy comments, attacking you behind your back, actively attempting to sabotage your success in the future, etc. It would work better to keep him chained to his desk rather than not and have him incessantly second-guess literally everything that happens because, seriously, Donald Trump is the cattiest person. He's like a bizarro world version of a Mean Girls character.

Seen on a Deviant Art member's journal. And you know, that is what the protestors look like. Fucking idiots. Fucking immature idiots. We can't make excuses for this kind of behavior and say, "This proves we won't take shit lying down." No, it makes us look like immature brats.
