Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

As a Clinton supporter I do think she has a certain "Wave for the Camera" smile that comes off as weird. I've tried to watch as much of her speeches as I could and it's much more noticeable than Michelle Obama's smiles, to compare another prominent woman.
If the only thing ERB could think of to keep the flow was to criticize her smiles, I took it was a pretty strong endorsement for Clinton.

Also, it isn't like Trump's appearance hasn't been criticized this election, either. Trump's Orange Spray-On Tan have provided many jokes this election cycle, and Trump's Hair has been a meme since his days as host of The Apprentice.
Wizard Needs Food BadlyHate is often recognizable because of its extraordinary stupidity.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Authorities took 46-year-old Scott Michael Greene into custody hours after the killings and less than three weeks after he argued with officers who removed him from a high school football game where he had unfurled a Confederate flag near black spectators.
...
In other incidents, court records show Greene was jailed and charged with interference with official acts after resisting Urbandale police officers who tried to pat him down for a weapon on April 10, 2014. An Urbandale officer described him as hostile and combative. He entered a guilty plea and was fined.
Two days later Urbandale police were called to answer a complaint of harassment at the apartment complex where Greene lived. The complaint said he threatened to kill another man during a confrontation in the parking lot and yelled a racial epithet at the man. Greene was charged with harassment.
Want 'em running the country? Vote Trump.
I mean, he's kind of just a singular lunatic though. A guy who hates both the police and black people- and apparently hates the police more. That ain't Trump's platform. If you asked Trump which group he likes less, I'm pretty sure he'd go with black people.

Trump is running on a "law and order" platform wherein he considers it just peachy for cops to frisk, imprison, and murder black people without justification or repercussion. Police are not people to him, just tools. If they protect his interests, they're useful. If not, he doesn't give a damn.
And this.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"On the topic of Comey, I was just looking at today's edition of Neue Zürcher Zeitung (a Swiss newspaper) which had as its very first item an article titled "The FBI is silent on Trump: "Transparency" only applies to the Clinton case" - note the scare quotes around "transparency". Seems like a lot of people are picking up on the appearance of impropriety around the investigation.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI see Trump supporters and this whole election in industrial terms - Clinton's presidency would be better purely because it has programs that help the middle and lower classes, while Trump does not.
His supporters, clinging to obsolete jobs like coal and going along with plans that hurt them for quasi religious reasons... I view them as basically humanoid industrial waste products.
Nothing they say or believe has any validity, and if they get screwed over in the process of continuing growth trends, then I say "good".
We do not require these people if their sole interest is keeping alive a mythology of the confederacy and the idiotic notions they have such as "honor" and "southern pride".
Crush them in this election and let existing trends take care of the rest.
At a minimum, the one in which two police officers were just murdered by a white nationalist.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's an awkward situation police are in where progressives hate them for murdering black kids and white nationalists hate them for not murdering enough black kids.
That, cult of moderation folks, is exactly what - to quote Fighteer - "half-racism" looks like.

I don't know. Maybe? I'm not sure if their race matters in this case - we know that the guy was a racist asshole regardless.

Which is a fine format 90% of the time, but becomes enormously problematic when they stick their noses into current political issues.
