Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I think that if Trump really did represent the best interests of women and minority groups, their support of him would be much greater.
Regardless, I think it's pretty clear that he's terrible at actually selling the idea that he represents their best interests.

No one's asking you to apologize for things you haven't done. We just think it's a good idea to acknowledge that racism (specifically, white supremacy) has been a part of American culture for a very long time, and we're still in the process of rooting it out.

Oh God! Natural light!Projecting much? We had no idea what race you were until you mentioned it just now.
It's not even your race we object to, it's the refusal to acknowledge the privilege that comes with it, and the abuse of that privilege without caring about the consequences

Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youYeah, Trump has record-breakingly low support among minority of all kinds- even the ones that are usually willing to vote Republican.
But yeah, I mentioned two reasons why people with a conscious could support him: either they've fallen for a con man, or are misinformed enough to think that Hillary is worse. I don't know which category you fall into, but those are possible reasons.
But, indeed, we might as well let the guy who claims to both have a conscious and support Trump have an input: how can you excuse the dozens of terrible things he's done and said?
There is a third category. The kind that is unrepentantly racist, xenophobic, homophobic, and hates the loss of privilege that comes with racial, gender, and religious equality. The "deplorable". Let's not dance the Politically Correct dance here.

Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youAnd we have ourselves a new Trump troll ladies and gentlemen. Should we start the countdown until s/he says something ban worthy? I mean, I'd love to think it won't happen this time but the track record for Trump fans and this thread isn't encouraging.
As for this crap about apologizing for being white, if acknowledging that white, straight men have done some serious damage to the world and continue to control much of it feels like an "attack" to you, the problem is not with the people pointing out reality. The problem is with you.
EDIT: Oh lovely. Denying Trump is a bigot. We're well away from reality already, ain't we?

Trump is a blatant bigot. His real-estate company was directed by him to turn down black applicants. The man is a cancer.
Edit: Yeah, posting history includes anti-LGBT posts in that topic and pro-Trump posts in this one. Bye bye.

THEY STILL USE ELECTROSHOCK AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY ABUSIVE TACTICS LIKE GASLIGHTING AND BELITTLING
HE WANTS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO PAY FOR THE TORTURE OF AMERICAN CITIZENS
WHO HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG

Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youGuys, relax, the troll is banned.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"You don't find him calling mexicans rapists, or that a judge isn't fit to serve because of his race to be bigoted comments? Or how about the fact that back in the day, he faced a lawsuit over discrimination?
And that not touching his attitude on women.
Edit: Man, I wish you hadn't, Fighteer. He hadn't actually said anything offensive yet.

@kkhohoho Because Clinton has emails or something I've no doubt.
That said, I'll give this guy the benefit of the doubt for a moment—please give us your reality based, non-bigoted reasons for supporting America's newest Mussolini impersonator.
EDIT: And the troll has been forced back under his bridge.

Impossible to say for certain, I think.
Shame, I wanted to hear his arguments in more detail. Oh well...
Oh God! Natural light!Fighteer said they had a history.

Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youDisagreeing with someone and making that disagreement known is one thing. Banning someone because of that disagreement is another. Heck, I honestly think we should just unban him, because other than supporting Trump, he hasn't really done anything wrong. (Of course, some could say that supporting Trump is in and of itself wrong, but I digress.
The management here has decided that advocating unqualified support for Trump is equivalent to advocating bigotry and thus grounds for speedy banning. I don't know if that's a good thing for all the reasons already mentioned. but perusal of their post history has often turned up bigoted posts that otherwise went unnoticed.

I still find the implication of saying "I support Trump" to be a bannable offense troubling. If they've actually said things against site rules that's one thing, but projecting thoughts on to people they haven't necessarily voiced just because they support a candidate you consider terrible doesn't reflect well on this place.
GUYS the dude has a MILLION thumps
could we maybe NOT campaign to bring him back
DUDE we've HAD a Trump supporter come here before and NOT get banned or thumped. They walked away a little bowlegged sure, but we didn't ban them. They had most of their arguments shot down, and they likely decided never to come back again, but their support of Trump itself isn't what got them banned.
Could we maybe stop acting like that's what happened?

Didn't Trump see a black supporter at his rally, and assume he was a protestor? Called him a thug, and had him removed. Surely there is no reason for that.
