Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I just got back from door-to-door canvassing in my local neighborhood. All the people I reached were strong Hillary supporters; nobody was vocally undecided. I did speak to one guy who wasn't aware of the state Senate race, so I gave him a prompt on that one. Maybe the folks who weren't interested just didn't answer the door. But it's a good feeling to go out and talk to "real people" about the election, not the manufactured hypothetical voters that show up on the news.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
x4 — Which just goes to show that Trump is so enamored of power (as he perceives it in his infantile way), that he wants to join the club, and become a powerful, tyrannical dictator himself. Without having to do any work to get it, of course...

This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Just did early voting with my mom. We both voted for Hillary, as well as the Democratic candidate for the House, though we split on the Senate seat - I went Strickland, she went Portland. I suppose when it comes to Republicans, you could do worse than him.
@Fighteer: You're in Pennsylvania, right? What is the general opinion on the Senate election?
Oh God! Natural light! My ballot is in the mail. I don't even know who's running to replace Harry Reid, but the D got my vote.note Used google a lot to look up all the lower/local candidates as well as more information on the ballot initiatives. Yes to MJnote , no to deregulation. I only left blank the election for the school board, because I couldn't find anything good on either candidate.
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswIt depends. If Comey lets this draw on without coming clean and providing answers, low-information voters will fill in the blanks themselves, with helpful obfuscation from the 24/7 news cycle.
That's right, boys. Mondo cool.I suppose the good news is that Florida and North Carolina both have early voting. So Hillary has probably already locked in part of her lead.

That's what I'm thinking too. On the other hand, right now it seems like the story is becoming about the FBI, since there's not enough info on the emails themselves.
Part of the issue is that people have been treating this like the bombshell that it is not. If Comey explicitly said "I changed my mind, we're prosecuting Clinton," that would indeed be a big deal. But he didn't.
It very well could be that he has nothing and this the closest he could get, hence the Clinton camp confidently saying "release what you've got" (although I still think there's the chance it comes back to bite them anyways). I personally wouldn't expect to be hearing any more from him for the next week or so.
Nonetheless, I do imagine this hurts Clinton to some degree, with some people tenuously voting for her deciding "ah, can't trust'em after all, I'll just sit this one out," and people on the fence about Trump deciding "ah, those Clintons are just up to no good, better stick with Trump."
I do like that the Clinton campaign's response to this has basically been Bring It.
~Karkat The Dalek: Most people I talked to (who are Dems, it must be said) favor McGinty.

I see. A heavily Democratic area, then? Do you know what it's like in other parts of the state?
Election Update: Four Ways Forward For Clinton After The FBI News
.
Certainly, I think there's a low risk of anything damaging coming from this, so I'm thinking that maybe Clinton should demand more information, then mostly just let it fade away. Comey, I think, can be left to the court of public opinion for now (or to, say, the President).
She might want to wait a bit if her team has anything on Trump, though if she does, she should probably drop it soon.
Oh God! Natural light!Yeah, this would be a great for time for a tape of Trump dropping Cluster N Bombs or something like that to come out.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.

Thanks, though I had to verify via The Guardian
instead as I had no articles left for Washington Post.
