Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

@Handle, never underestimate how crazy some of these conspiracy types can be. Like, a guy I've known for a long time has recently boarded the crazy racist train and actually tried to argue that there were never black slaves in America, and it was poor whites who were kept as slaves by rich black plantation owners. e_e
When 3 of the 4 top news stories right now on my phone are 'FBI reopening email investigation' and the other top story is 'Professor who has correctly predicted the election for the past 30 years is doubling down on Trump will win' I am not sure sure on that.
This is going to give me an ulcer.

I didn't expect this mere hours after it concluded.
New Survey coming this weekend! It would not have changed anything about not chargin her: https://twitter.com/JustSchmeltzer/status/792094841966559237
Can someone just please tell me exactly what is going on? Because first, I thought that the FBI had found new emails from Clinton that apparently gave them enough cause to reopen the case, but now it seems that they weren't actually from her, and that there may or not be an actual real case. Basically, I've no clue as to what has or hasn't actually happened, so it it would nice if someone could clear this up for me. (Pretty please?)

Sadly, I just stumbled across a strip from Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal that practically called Trump's entire campaign process 6 years before it happened
.
"My political opponents are all Bonpartists!"
Also, can we stop pretending that the scandals regarding Clinton are baseless? Yeah, they're absolutely small potatoes compared to the shit Trump trots out on a daily basis, but all I can think is the moment in the third debate when Clinton rather blatantly dodged the question regarding the pay-for-play allegations with the Clinton Foundation by trying to talk about how much good the charity has done. While that absolutely should be part of the answer, it's not how you respond to the question off the bat.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Assuming that you guys can talk about something not directly pertaining to Trump or Clinton for more than two seconds, the transgender bathroom issue is going to the Supreme Court.
I wish I knew the exact date the hearings are on, but the article doesn't say. Probably not scheduled yet, which makes me wonder if they would consider a delay in favor of a ninth justice appointment. (Probably not a good idea, but still...)

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)He's basically deliberately getting "FBI REOPENS CLINTON EMAIL INVESTIGATION!" headlines posted. The only question is whether retractions, clarifications, and further details will get out before they're overwhelmed by the misleading main story.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.

God damnit, seriously this is going to be so bad this close to the election....
