Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I mean, do people actually care about those stars? I'm sure Trump does and will, but I doubt the average person does.
Of course, he'll probably use it as an example of "typical lawlessness of Hillary supporters" or something, and things like that is why stuff like this isn't productive. It doesn't really accomplish anything.
I feel so fucking vindicated right now. Months ago I told a friend that Trump would say exactly this... if he was elected. Turns out I didn't even need to wait that long.

So apparently Y'all Qeada got a Not Guilty verdict.
So an acquaintance I used to play tabletop games with wrote this
article describing a sort of political map with a bit more nuance than the standard left/right binary. I actually find it pretty compelling (up until the bolded header "Lower Leftism" when he starts raving about the virtues of anarchism, which I'm less than a fan of), and I'm curious what you guys think.
Of the map. Not so much of the anarchy wonk.
Two-axis political spectrums (with the two axes being "level of government control" from authoritarian to anarchy and "level of economic freedom" from laissez faire to communism) are nothing new, that guy in particularly just seems to have adjusted what he considers the zero-line of both axes in order to make his political statement of choice ("there's basically no difference between Democrats and Republicans, we should all be anarchists instead").
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Re: Y'all Quaeda:
Technically, all they did was stage a sit-in on a piece of government property that wasn't even in use at the time. The fact that they were all armed carried an implicit threat, but that's not actually a crime. The most you could get them for is trespassing.

I am disappointed by the lack of an actual map. I was expecting a geographical map with the four points mapped onto them like you have Republican or Democrat leanings mapped onto a physical maps. So you'd seen which states are anarch-capitalist, which are anarch-communist, which are authoritarian communist and which are authoritarian capitalist.

But if Hillary had a star, you wouldn't want some yahoo destroying that, would you?
